Before we had LOs, I bet some of us had ideas in our heads of what we thought we would do or would never do with our LOs, but as reality sets in, we definitely give in on some of those ideas while we stick to our guns on others. So what have you given in on and what are you sticking to your guns on so far?
(STM feel free to weigh in too; I just thought this might apply to FTM slightly more.)
Re: FTMs and sticking to your guns
I guess you could say I gave in on formula feeding too. I was always willing to do it if I had to, but I was REALLY hoping to breastfeed.
Stuck to my guns: no TV, waiting to start food until around six months
I said no tv but we went to a cry baby matinee, and every once in a while one of us has the tv on and he sees it. I also thought I would do blw, nope... Purées so far. I didn't think I would co-sleep but if it's after 5am when he wakes, in to bed he comes!
BFP#2 9/28/12 EDD 6/5/13 J.B. born 6/6/13
Stuck to my guns - natural, med free birth, EBF, no TV, cloth diapering, making my own baby food (so far anyways)
Gave in - solids before 6m (she was just ready earlier), occasional cosleeping. The biggest thing I gave up on was being the perfect wife/SAHM. DD take 2 20-30 min naps daily and while she's awake she demands all of my attention. I'm still learning to accept my limitations
DD's pedi told me a LONG time ago: "She's your daughter, you're the mom. YOU decide what's best", and I live by that. When I believe they're ready, we go for it. I don't read books or internet articles, but I did at first. In hindsight did it help? No. I know my babies better than anyone.
I said blw wasn't for us, however I've given him avocado and banana whole. Its more of a mess then anything, but he enjoys it. I personally feel purees are better for us, but I go with the flow and do what he wants.
I've said I'd never let my kid have a melt town in public....but I have. I'm referring to my older kids here, when they were little.
I just go with the flew. Every baby is different.
I stuck to my guns with BFing and not giving solids until 6 months.
