Constant hunger and nausea

I feel like I'm going crazy here. I finally got nausea this week but the worst part of it is I'm always hungry and hunger makes me feel more nauseous. So I'm battling a lack of appetite with a need to eat constantly. If I don't eat every two hours I get extreme hunger and feel crappy but the thought of food makes me gag.

Also I will literally just eat and still feel hungry, its driving me nutty! I feel like there's no way I could possibly still be hungry

Sorry to be an AW I just need to vent. Please feel free to vent about what is driving you crazy right now pregnancy symptom-wise

Re: Constant hunger and nausea

I feel like I get more irritated than usual at certain things.

For example, my mom was smacking her gum really loudly yesterday when we were driving around, and I wanted to yell out "For the love of all that is holy, please stop smacking your fucking gum."  That normally would not have bothered me as much.  That, and I can normally only stand to be around her for 2-3 days at a time, and that was the 5th day of spending all day with her.

And the exhaustion has been killer so far.  As long as I can get a cup of coffee in, I think I'll be okay when I go back to work on Wednesday, but that royally sucked this week.  It also didn't help that I had to switch my body from a night schedule to a day schedule (and I have to switch back to nights for when I go back to work).

  • I have the same issue between hunger and nausea. I feel the worst when I'm hungry, so I will eat. It surprises me how suddenly the hunger pains come.

  • Same here OP. I'll go from feeling fine to deathly hungry and need to eat NOW. If I don't I'll feel weak, nauseated, dizzy, etc. I'm trying to remind myself to have a bite every couple of hrs - be it fruit, yogurt (which can help settle a stomach), nuts, etc

  • Yeah, the eating constantly does help ward off nausea, but is so annoying. I've also been really tired this week. My H has been off of work for Christmas, so it has been nice that I can nap whenever and he'll take care of DS. I have a feeling once he goes back to work, DS will watch a lot of TV....

  • Yeah, sounds about right. I've been waking up night after night around 3am with some extreme nausea. I realized it's due to hunger. So I eat some cheese (forcing it down because it's NOT appetizing) and I feel better about 10 min later.

I ended up getting cottage cheese to just shovel on my mouth which is a lot easier, full of protein, and doesn't require chewing. It works like medicine. Protein seems to help way better than carbohydrates do. Good luck!

  • Have you tried drinking your calories?  While I am not usually a fan of that approach, it can help when you need them and can't tolerate food.  A high quality whey protein shake, juice, milkshake, even a sports drink may help.  Keeping yout blood sugar as level as possible may help.  I never drink anything with calories but have found lately that half a 30oz bottle of low sugar apple juice and half water is really helping to balance my sugar when I don't have the stomach to eat and keeping me well hydrated.  I drink a minimum of 3 of those bottles daily and aim for 100oz per day.  I have also noticed the more hydrated I am, the less sick I feel so between 90-120oz of fluid a day seems to be working well for me right now.  I need a minimum of 80oz per day and going over that amount seems to me keeping my nausea tolerable.  The apple juice mixture has a ton more calories than I am used to drinking, but for this temporary period, it is helping.

  • I went to the store and bought all little containers of fruit (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries) it's great to have on hand for the constant eating. I pop a few berries (or the small container) and I feel better, and in know it's not junk food.

  • Confession - I have eaten approximately 4 meals today, and am salivating over the dinner (meal #5) that I will devour in about an hour. Definitely don't remember being this constantly hungry last time around.

Glad I'm not the only one but sorry you have to go thru it too. Today started off just as crappy but miraculously after I ate my lunch I felt 99% better and had a good day afterwards.

Unfortunately I feel it coming back. I tried eating often today and drinking a lot of water but I'm already cringing at the thought of dinner and there's a good chance I will be puking my guts out at some point tonight

I actually thought of that, I can't stand apple juice but I think I could drink some cranberry juice. I also bought some odwalla fruit smoothies earlier just in case and I think they will definitely come in handy

  • I feel the same way, OP.  I get hungry constantly, and as soon as I'm hungry I'm nauseous.  I stocked up on popsicles and also got some orange sherbet which seems to help settle my stomach when nothing else sounds good...
