Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Lazy baby? :)

My 6 month old daughter seems perfectly content to just lay on her back for sleep and play. She has shown no interest or made any attempts to roll over! Anyone else have what I endearingly refer to as a lazy baby? She sits up fine and we do tummy time several times daily for as long as she will tolerate it-usually 15 minutes max per session, but she has no interest in rolling over. At what point should I be concerned? Any one else have a late bloomer?

Re: Lazy baby? :)

  • My middle son was that way.  We were expecting a quick ramp up like we'd had with our DD who crawled and cruised the same day at 6 1/2 months.  Nope.  I remember we went on vacation when Atticus was basically 7 months and we were still putting blankets and pillows behind him for sitting.  He wasn't crawling for certain.  I don't recall if he was rolling over.  If he was it wasn't much at all.  He got with it for sure; it just took longer.

  • My DD3 was that way. She would say but one word until 15 months, she didn't sit until 11 months, crawled at 13 months and didn't walk until 17 months. We had her in speech and physical therapy. Turned out she just wanted to do things in her own time. Now at 4 you would never know she took so long to do those milestones.
  • Everything I've read and heard says the only time to worry is when they're limp, which it doesn't sound like she is. Sounds like she might just be an introvert. My mom said that you could sit me up in the middle of a room and walk away and half an hour later I'd still be sitting there happily.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me! Likely, when she decides to do it she'll have less of a trial-and-error phase!

  • Thank you for the reassurance. I try not to worry and compare her to other babies but as a first time mom it is hard not to worry!
  • My DD was like that. I think she rolled once to prove she could do it and that was about it. She started pulling herself up on stuff around 10 months, but didn't walk until she was 17 months. She just didn't want to let go. When she was ready she got up and walked across the room. Your LO will do it when she's ready, or she could just skip that milestone.

  • My oldest didnt roll until really late. He was a chunker and it's hard to move all those rolls around ;)

The twins are peanuts and have rolled much much more easily.

  • If you are really concerned I would talk to your dr. All babies hit 'milestones' differently. It's not cookie cutter.

    Good luck
