I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why a teething toy would be $23. Is it magical? What makes this Girraffe better than any other teething device? It just looks like a rubber Girraffe to me. Am I missing something?
Someone bought it for us for Christmas, I honestly had no plans to buy one. It came with a stuffed giraffe, which is cute, but right now my dog is constantly trying to steal the teether it because it squeaks.
I had never heard of this until reading this post. After googling it I have to say that it looks like a really expensive baby toy that my dog would probably claim if baby girl ever dropped it. Maybe if I get desperate I'll try anything but right now I don't see the point in spending so much money as a first try teether.
Haha catnip. Thanks for the feedback. I think this is something I will happily accept if I get it as a gift, but I can't imagine spending that kind of money on it. I've never had terrible trouble with teething babies so hopefully I won't eat my words with this LO.
Was the best thing we bought. Alexis still chews on it. The natural rubber and squeak attract the dogs. It didn't take long for our dogs to understand that toy was off limits to them.
I like that it's not made in China and I don't have to worry about anything lead or otherwise being in it.
i have a couple friends with little ones that love it....but honestly, i just really love giraffes, and so Sharkie is getting a lot of Giraffe\Dino themed stuff.
I always wondered this too. We never had one with DD. I wouldn't have minded someone else buying it for her, or for this baby, but I can't justify spending 20+ bucks on a teething toy myself.
I also wasn't going to buy one because of the price but got it as a gift. My daughter loved it! I will get another one for this guy because she loved it so much. My dogs did go crazy over it but I washed it one time and the squeaker broke and they weren't that interested in it anymore.
I think babies like them because of the different length/shape of each part of it. The legs are long and skinny so can fit at the back of the mouth when baby is getting molars, but head is okay for front of mouth for incisors.
I've never had one for either kid, and unless someone gifted it to us, I would never buy it myself. Anything over $5 for a teether is ridiculous to me
I call it an overpriced dog toy! That said, we received one as a gift and DS loves it. Definitely worth it but I'm not quite sure why. We have lost it twice and back tracked like crazy to find it both times because no way am I spending my own money on a new one!
My crunchy friends love it for the natural rubber/materials (something that apparently can't be said about most teething toys). I put it on our registry since every kid I've known seems to love it, and I'd rather have one good, natural-esque teething toy than a slew of ones I'm not sure about on the materials.
Bahaha! Come spice it up @farmboys wife! I was surprised at all the input on the Giraffe lol. I'm still not sold though. I don't even think I'd put it on my registry, my friends would think I'd lost my mind!
FYI...You can get the original Sophie and a soft plush version at Sam's club in a pack for $24!!!! When I saw it, I bought that and took it off my registry. Two toys for the price of one!!!
I 100% agree with u. I registered for other teething toys that my day care kids use figured if they all use the same ones my kid would gravitate towards them as well. My husband did go crazy trigger happy when we registered an he did put it on there. If someone gets it for us I might return it cause I think it's stupid myself lol
This and the glowing musical seahorse were what all the babies in my last BMB went nuts over. We didn't have either. DD ended up not taking anything but her fingers and teething tabs for teething.
It's been around forever apparently. I've watched a few videos on YouTube about it and it's explained really well there. I will for sure be getting one, fingers crossed it'll be gifted at my shower but if not I will just go get one.
I have no idea but I found the teether one on clearance at Target for $8.50 that comes with a Sophie book so I got it. Otherwise I wouldn't have spent the money.
I'm so happy to see this post - a few of the wealthier partners at work have been telling me things I "have to have". The list is out of control, $600 strollers I cannot live without and will regret not investing in, etc. Sophie was the last straw, I told my boss if he expected me to get things like a $25 teether he'd have to give me a raise. As far as registering for it, I'd rather people got us stuff we needed!
My friend just gave me one. I was SO excited -- I'm an insane Francophile and a complete sucker for anything that will introduce my child to French

Re: Sofie the Girraffe? WTF is so cool about this thing? Someone explain.
But DD honestly wasn't into any teething toys at all.
Edited to fix autocorrect.

I think baby's hands/fingers are the most natural. Those have always been MY kids' favourite teethers.
Oh, and they are very hard to lose.
