Re: How many Annabelles do you know? And thoughts on the name?

  • Hmm. I don't know any girls named Annabelle personally, and never had one in my classroom in the 15 years I taught.  It's not my naming style, but there is nothing necessarily wrong with it.

  • I like it but I don't LOVE it. I would prefer just Anna or just Belle. But it's a pretty name. I don't know any but that doesn't mean it's not popular.

I like it a lot. I know a little girl named Annabelle who is ... maybe 10 now? (Not so little anymore!) I also know an Annabelle who is 4 and an Annabella who is about 6, and an adult Anabel.

  • I prefer Annabel. It is on our long list. DH loves this name and is pushing for it now but it almost feels too girly for my taste.

    I like it.

  • I don't know any annabellespersonally but I have met a few in the past. I think it was more popular in the early 1990's than it is right now, but I still can't say that it got that popular.

I think it's okay. French names (though I have lots if French heritage) are just NMS. It seems very old fashioned but not in a bad way, also very much like a name in a book where everyone bows at each other. It's pretty, maybe too pretty?
If you love it, I say go for it as long as it turns out to be uncommon enough to suit you, of course!

  • I have two friends from high school that have named their DDs Annabelle in the last 2 years or so. I do like it, though would be too matchy with our DD, Isabella.

  • This is one I used to like more than I do now. I think due to the prevalence of names that end in belle or just plain belle. Nothing fresh about it. Not a bad name at all just, for me, it gets losts among the pack

  • I love it. I don't know anybody with that name, also.

  • I like it but prefer Annabel.
  • I do not know anyone with that name. I don't love it but I don't hate it. It is sort of eh for me.

  • I love it. I know two Annabellas, both go by Bella. One is three and the other six. I like Annabelle much more though. According to name nerds there were 4,848 born last year, including spelling variants making it #75 but Annabelle is #100 on the ss list.

  • I don't know any, and I am around lots of small children/babies for work. It's fine, but I'm not a fan personally of any of the Ann names or Belle names, so it's just really nms.

It's the name of our second Angel Baby. I prefer Annabel. The other spellings look  frilly. I don't know any other girls named Annabel.

  • Love it with your spelling. Annabel reads like Ann-ah-bull.
  • I've known an Annabel. I like the name a lot. I have an Anna and thought about Annabelle, but DH didn't go for it.

  • DD us Annabel- I know of one other little girl around 7 who shares her name but spells it Annabelle. We wanted something feminine that we didn't hear often. We get a lot of compliments on her name, but then what idiot would say anything rude about your kids name right your face, right? Personally, I love it- it suits her sweet, spunky, intelligence perfectly and has grown well with her.

  • I have an Annabelle. I've never known any one else with the name. Of course after we named her everyone we knew would say oh so and so just named their baby Annabelle too. But I've never met another one. I obviously love the name. It is very feminine. It also gives her the option of going by Anna or Ann when she's older if she thinks Annabelle is too frilly.
  • I know one annabelle. A friend from high school named her daughter annabelle nn bella for her gmil. I didnt like the name at first but now i love it.

  • I don't know any. It's too frilly for me. I love plain Anna though or Anastasia.

  • Not my style at all. However, I think it is making a comeback so I would look at the SS website if you're concerned with popularity.

  • I have a new niece with this name and went to school with an Annabella, who is now 30ish. I really like this name. I see it as another way to get to the nickname Belle or Bella without naming a child Isabel, which is super popular in my group of friends.

  • I think this is a beautiful name.  However, I wouldn't use it because I have known two - one ex co-worker and one little girl I met over the summer.  Both of them were BSC.  Shame because I really do like it :(

  • I've known two. One is my friends daughter and she is 18 months. The other is a former student and in high school now.

It's a little frilly for my taste, but a perfectly good name.

  • I don't know any but I like the name. Particularly because you'd get to use the nn Anne.
  • I know of one Annabelle and she was born in September.  Every time I hear the name Annabelle I think of a restaurant we used to have when I was really little, and it was called Annabelle's :)
