No WCM yet?

Are we the only ones that have yet to start introducing WCM?  DS still nurses at least 6 times a day and quite frankly I am not a huge fan of WCM nutrition wise.
Did your pediatricians recommend starting it before their first birthday?  Ours didn't mention it at the 9 month appointment.

Re: No WCM yet?

  • I started weaning at 10 months so that by his 1st birthday he was down to nursing only morning and night. I wanted to make sure we had lots of time in case he didn't take it well. I asked my doctor if I should do formula or if I could just do WCM. He said WCM would be fine as DS has not had any issues with cheese or yogurt. After a month of weaning we've gone from 6-7 nursing sessions a day to 3-4.

  • Nope we haven't introd yet. I'm thinking not for a couple more months. We go for our 1 year apt in a month so I'll ask but my pedi always tells me to use my mommy instincts on every question I ask! Ha. I am not for certain on wcm or coconut milk or soy milk. I need to do more research on what might work best for us. We are in no hurry. R nurses at least 5 times a day including motn feeding if she wakes. Plus all weekend and gets 1 bottle of bm a day 5 days a week when I work. I have at least 200 oz of bm in the freezer so I plan to cut down my pumping from 5 days to 4 (practiced my week before 2 weeks vacation for the holidays) and plan to go to 3 days a week pumping and we will take it from there. I am not sick of brestfeeding. I am sick of pumping!
Just wanted to let you know that you are a rockstar for pumping this long.  I HATE the pump and the pump hates me.
I am glad to hear that someone else isn't in a hurry to start WCM.  I figure if I am lucky enough to still be nursing, I may as well continue as long at it is working for us.

  • We are waiting to ask about it at her 1 year. Our ped does not want her starting WCM until after she is 1.

  • I won't be giving DD milk. She eats cheese but we don't do milk and neither will she.
  • We haven't introduced it yet. I was planning on asking our pedi about it at her 1 year appt. I have enough frozen breast milk in the freezer to last us a while so I figure why switch before her appt.

  • Ours did not mention it. I started giving a little bit of it to her in a sippy like once a day, but thats about it.

  • Well, the plan so far is to just see how DD does with cups and solids and continue nursing on demand for the time being. I see us doing WCM but not until we're ready to wean. Beyond that I haven't given it much thought.

  • We haven't made any transition yet. LO has weaned to 4 nursing sessions a day and her nighttime bottle. While home I nurse her but while I'm at work she gets bottles, usually 2 or 3. I have a TON of frozen milk in the freezer. She goes in for her 1 year appointment on the 11th, so we will see what the doctor says then. I'm hoping the transition to a cup will be easier than DD1 who

  • We will *just* start introducing tomorrow actually (having finished off the last can if formula I had on hand!) -- I only need 6-8oz a day to cover what I can't produce for my girls via pumping...will completely wean likely over the summer and/or when DD2 starts upping her solids intake. We are also stopping using the formula to up the calories of the BM to a 22cal/oz 'recipe.' Right now, she's just in love with her bottles....

  • Nope, and have no plans to do so for awhile. And I may be a rebel, but I also have no plans to nix our bedtime bottle for a long time, either!

In all seriousness, our pedi didn't say anything at the 9mo appointment, and we don't have her 12mo appointment until after her birthday.
Our little Samosa arrives in January!
  • We introduced it after the nine month appointment. I asked the ped about it because I was running out of bm practicing with a cup at meals and not making enough for daycare. She okayed it and I was glad to start because I was afraid she wouldn't like it. We now mix it about half and half in bottles for daycare and use it straight at meals. It had helped ease the stress of not having enough for her to drink and she slurps it right up. :-)
