Ok, maybe this is a dumb FTM question, but why did the doctor say to avoid LO watching or being near the TV when it is on? I googled it and there were many reasons but nothing was scientifically proven so what is the reasoning your doctors have give? What are your opinions on the topic? My friends with kids/babies have never heard or been told this before. I watched TV before age 2 and turned out fine so why all the sudden?
Re: TV
As for the question of "why all of a sudden", I think it has to do with the findings of some of the studies recently done. Not "scientifically proven" but good enough for the AAP to change their recommendation to no tv before 2.

With DD, the TV is on often. I always have the news or Today on in the morning. DS watches a show or two during the day. DD may glance at the TV every once in a while, but I rarely catch her watching. Her toys and crazy brother are much more entertaining at this point. I figure that's stimulation enough!
