January 2014 Moms

When little kids "know" something is going to happen.

Thursday afternoon my niece (who's 4) informed my sister that the baby was talking to her and the baby told her that she wanted out to play, that she was tired of being stuck inside.

We were all together for the holiday and thought it was adorable/cute and all that. When my sister asked her when she would be here she held up her little hand and said "just 5 more days."

I had my apt yesterday and was told that I was 3cm/90% and my Dr told me to "have a bag packed and be ready" I decided to tell her what my niece had said and her response was "little kids just know."

Now I'm fully aware that I can stay like that for a couple weeks if not longer. Which, honestly, I would be fine with. I'll only be 37wks on Monday so I'm all for her staying in for a while longer.

Have any of you ladies had any experiences with little kids saying stuff like? Just curious, thought it was an interesting topic just to see what the responses would be.  :)

  • My niece told my mil at her 3rd birthday party that she was going to hold my baby. We had just found out I was pregnant two days prior and hadn't told anyone. She also said he would be here after Christmas dinner...while technically she is still correct, it made a lot of the adults tense after we finished dinner! :-)
  • Aw, that's adorable! How crazy tho if LO ends up being born in 5 days! LOL

  • That is really sweet!! My girls know baby is coming soon & I think my youngest is really starting to grasp it. I am getting a lot of mommy hold me's lately.

  • DS has always said he wanted a sister and referred to when he has a sister. When we told him I was pg he immediately said it was a girl baby. I'm expecting a little girl :)

  • @inhishands648, how funny! I bet everyone was a bit nervous! :)

@LabPupLuv, It was adorable, just a little unsettling after my appointment lol. This little girl also told us back in July that LO was a girl...a month later we found out she was a girl, so I guess on New Years Eve we'll see if she was correct. ;)

  • So cute! I love little kids!
Nothing with this pregnancy, but with my first pregnancy, my youngest stepdaughter crawled into my lap and started rubbing my belly. We had just found out a few days before and hadn't told anyone, including the girls. I asked her why she was rubbing my belly and she just got really shy. It was so cute. I know she knew something :-)
  • DS keeps telling me she is ready and running out of room and keeps talking about them having to cut me open with a knife to get the baby. We haven't talked about CS yet. Her head has been lodged in my right hip for a while now though instead of transverse like she was and she still has plenty of time.
  • I'm about to mention my loss, just so you guys are aware.

The night I lost Devon, JJ was very, VERY clingy. He wouldn't let me leave his side the entire night, and he cried himself to sleep in my arms. After he went to sleep, I took myself to the ER because I hadn't felt Devon move in a few hours, and that's where I found out he was gone. I was in the hospital for two days, and the entire time, JJ kept asking to come see me and to snuggle with his mommy [my mom watched him while I was in the hospital]. He hasn't been that clingy since my loss. It was so eerie that he just knew something was wrong and wanted to be by me.

On a lighter, happier note, he's recently starting saying that Mia is coming home soon. He talks about the baby more than he used to, and I'm less than two weeks out from being induced...so he knows that something is about to change again, too. Kids are just so aware, I tell ya.

  • My dd (20 mo) has been clingy for the last month. I think she senses change coming because she has been very "mommy mommy" lately.

OP, FWIW I'm effaced/dilated about the same as you at 38w 2d but I'm still thinking I've got a few weeks left.

  • We are team green and everybody thinks or is guessing boy since I'm carrying so different. A few weeks ago we asked dd if the baby is a girl or boy and she said, "girl!" We ask her once a day and the answer is almost always girl. She said boy once. I think it's really cute and it would be a cute story if she is right! I also hope she's not upset if it's a boy!

  • When I was growing up, my younger brother was in kindergarten and he had told his teacher after Christmas break that my mom had a baby and my parents were going to let him name the baby. Since my mom was "class mom" for his class, the teacher had just seen her about a month or so earlier and didn't think my mom looked pregnant (probably because she wasn't). The teacher finally asked my mom about it and she said no, there was no new baby. A month or so later, my mom found out she was pregnant.

As for my pregnancy, my niece was convinced that LO was coming on Christmas day. She had told me that since July and every time you asked her when the baby would be here, her response was "on Christmas." Needless to say she was wrong, as LO is still cooking for now, but my whole family watched my every move on Christmas Day to see if there were any signs of labor.

  • My DS is starting to get really excited about his lil sis getting here. He is almost 3 and last night during his bath he was pretending to be a whale in the ocean (thank you go Diego go for helping him enjoy bath time ). He lays on his belly and put his tail (feet) in the air and leans his head back so I can wash his hair. Then he randomly says "when my baby sister is here I show her to be a whale so no water in her eyes..."just made me laugh :) I said "well that would be very nice of you, what a good big brother!" He then said "not now though she's still sleeping in your belly." I said "she's asleep?", he said "yup"and continued on being a whale:) love this kid!
  • My nephew yesterday was talking to my brother. My brother asked him, "Where's Aunt Kath's baby?" My nephew grabbed my belly and goes, "In here." I started laughing and my brother goes, "So he's not here yet, right?" My nephew responds, "Not yet, but he will be here to play with me on my birthday."

My nephew's birthday is January 13. My EDD is January 19. I was like :-O
