Humidifier question

edited December 2013 in November 2013 Moms
I know we are not doctors I just want people's opinions...

I have a warm air Vick humidifier... DD1 is over 2years she is all stuffed up and has a cough... We have used the humidifier in her room at night and seems to help... Now LO (a month and 11 days) and myself are all stuffed up and coughing from drainage... Is it safe to use the Vicks humidifier in the living room and run it while LO and I are in there durning the day? I'm going to call LO doctor but I also wanted to see what other people thought/know about this topic! Thank you in advance

  • Yup we have a Vicks in our room we run for LO it cleaned him up in a day
  • Sure, why not. I don't run the humidifier in the day (only at night), but I do steam LO when I shower and other times if she's really congested.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • Thank you ladies... I called my LOs doctors and they suggested I only use a cool humidifier for LO... But I have a warm humidifier with Vicks scented pads that put off the Vicks smell... But I guess I can not put the Vicks pads in... Do you ladies run warm or cool humidifiers?
  • My doctor also said cool mist when LO had a cold a few weeks ago.
  • While cool mist seems to be what most used and recommended, I prefer the warm mist in the winter.  I think warm mist does not get recommended as much due to mold worry, etc, but just clean it regularly.

  • Thank you ladies! I'm going to stick with the warm mist since that's what I have! I just hate seeing either of my babies sick esp LO cuz she can't tell me what's wrong!
  • We have the Vicks warm air too (we just bought it because LO and myself are both sniffily right now). I called our doctor and asked about using the Vicks Vapo Steam in with the water and he said it was fine as long as we used half of what was recommended. He said ViCks isn't recommended for children under two becaue it can mess with their breathing because most people use too much when they are sick because they can't smell it so they add more. He also said not to use any of the rubs on her because they really irritate babies sensitive skin.
