Wincing when peeing

Hi there! Been away awhile - new job frowns on personal use of internet. Go figure! :-)  Hope everyone is doing well and having a wonderful holiday season so far!

I'm wondering if anyone else's LO has experienced something like this:  Every so often when my son pees, he grabs his diaper and says "pee pee" and kind of cries and winces.  Last night he actually rolled around on the ground while he was doing it.  I felt so bad for him.  We checked his diaper and he had pee'd.  I wiped his penis and he didn't wince when I did that.  And, ultimately he was fine.  He pees reguarly without doing this.  In fact, we watched him pee in the bathtub shortly before this incident and he didn't wince or seem bothered at all.  He also always has full diapers so it doesn't seem like he's dehydrated. Any thoughts on this?  Our theories so far:  his penis is bent at an uncomfortable angle, he's eaten something acidic and it sort of burns when he pees (which actually happens to me from time to time), or he suddenly isn't liking the sensation of feeling the pee in the diaper before the diaper absorbs it.   I'm on the fence if this is a call to the doctor type situation since it doesn't happen frequently.   Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Agree with a possible UTI. Yes, boys can definitely get them, especially little boys, who have short urethras.

  • Thanks everyone! We went to the pedi yesterday - he doesn't have a UTI, but she is recommending we see a urologist to get opinion on what may be going on.  She said it could be some type of urethra issue so she thought it best a specialist weigh in.  I hope it's nothing major but I'm glad we're getting it checked out.
