Prenatal yoga

Now that I'm finally feeling mostly better, it's definitely time to get back to being active. I've been looking into doing some prenatal yoga via an online service. Have any of you used any online yoga classes that you would recommend? I'm willing to pay a membership fee for a good one, but I'm wondering which one is best, or if there are any I haven't found yet?

Or, are online yoga classes not worth the monthly fee, because there's a good DVD out there that will take me all the way through to post partum?

Re: Prenatal yoga

  • I want to sign up, but I'm hesitant. Our local place is $150 for 10 weeks.

  • I just got a prenatal yoga DVD and mat for Christmas (which I asked for haha not a hint I'm getting fat). The DVD is cool because it has segments for 1,2,3 trimester workout AND post partum workouts. If you can't find an online group- you could always do something like this. I haven't tried my DVD yet so not sure how it is to recommend this particular one.
  • I have never heard of the online classes. Can anyone send me more details?! I want to do prenatal yoga, but there are no studios that offer it in my area. Or please post good video recommendations!! Thanks!!

  • i have been going to regular yoga classes and modifying the poses.  i let the instructor know that i am pregnant and she gives me great tips on how to get the benefits from the poses in modified positions.

  • @LEO2010 which DVD did you get?

I just bought 10 Minute Solution: Prenatal Pilates for (new) $6.99, The Perfect Pregnancy Workout, Vol. 1: Sculpting (used) for $3.06 and Summer Sanders' Prenatal Workout (new) for $11.96 on Amazon. They all have pretty good reviews and I figured they are cheap enough to try out.

My local gym also has a Prenatal Pilates/Stretch class and a Moms in Motion aquatic class that I think I will check out.. it's only $3 per gym visit if you live in town!

  • I totally can't do they DVDs at home. I'm just to distracted to focus, the cats screw with me during, etc. And because it's not a scheduled thing to go to, I don't make it happen.

  • People in previous threads had mentioned Yogaglo online classes. I am doing the 2 week free trial (after that it is $18/month), and I love it so far. They have tons of videos for all levels, and plenty of prenatal classes.

I have Gaiam (that's the brand?) yoga for pregnancy- it's the 2 DVD collection with prenatal and postnatal yoga. The segments are 55 min- not sure how I feel about that lol. When I try it I will post back about how it goes!

Yes, this is the one I found as well. I signed up and tried it out today and it was pretty good. I also found one through the Daily Burn that's only $10 a month. But I'm not sure if that one gives you access to all their yoga videos or just the prenatal series.

  • My yoga online is about $10 per month there's a trial too :)
  • There is a beautiful belly app from daily burn. There are three extended yoga routines for each trimester. The first trimester is free and it's only 6.99 to get the others. I really like the routine and I'm rather picky. You don't have to pay for the monthy daily burn with it either and it work perfectly to supplement my prenatal palates DVD and my walking.
  • There are some good prenatal yoga videos on YouTube. I've been doing this while my regular class is on holiday break.

  • @Shellann1 Which one is that?

@TeresaMarie35 I did find that one online, but it's $10/month for me, with a one month trial.  (Maybe it's the difference between the app and the online version?) I'm doing the trial for Yogaglo now, but I may try out the trial for Beautiful Belly when it's over.

@pinkchloe Can you share any specifics? Or how you found them? I've looked for good yoga videos in the past on youtube, but I've never found any good full length classes.

  • I have a prenatal yoga DVD I've been doing since I learned I was pregnant ( at 4 weeks). It has 15, 30, 45, and 75 min segments and is fairly intense. It's really helped me get in some round ligament stretching (it's nice to stretch it through lunges; yes it still hurts but I think that's better than the sudden pull through sneezing). Plus it's relaxing and I think does a good job of getting blood to the uterus. ("Complete prenatal vinyasa yoga and short forms" if you want to find it)

  • @sempre_staccato On YouTube, "Body Talk Daily" has a nice series of prenatal yoga videos, and I also enjoy Lara Dutta's videos.

  • I bookmarked Yogaglo after reading about it on here but haven't tried it yet. I did try this one today: Prenatal Yoga at DoYogaWithMe It's an hour long and very relaxing and gentle. The site also has three 20-minute prenatal classes for morning, afternoon, and evening. I like it so far.

  • @sempre_staccatoI think it is different the online service is a monthly fee but the app just gives you unlimited access to those 6 workouts.
  • Barre3 has some online prenatal classes too.  Not exactly yoga but very fun.  They offer a free 2 week preview and some of their videos are always free.
  • Sorry it's called "My Yoga Online". It's not just mine. Capitals are important ;)
