My ds is 6 months and some change. In the past few days he has been very difficult to put down for his 3rd nap. I'm wondering if it is time to drop it?? When your lo dropped it, did it change bedtime at all? I'm thinking it would be very difficult for him to make it all the way to bedtime from the end of his 2nd nap. Any insight on how you did it and how your lo did would be great. Thanks!
My 9 month old still has 3 naps a day. On the days where he has 2 naps I just make sure his bedtime is no more then 3-4 hours after he wakes up from his last nap. This way he is easier to go down and not wired. So if he wakes up from his last nap at 330pm he goes to bed at 630 or 7. On the days where he wakes up from his last nap at 2pm he goes to bed at 545 or 6.
Every once in a while my DD won't go down for her 3rd nap. She usually only takes it if we are in the car or stroller around that time. I watch carefully for her getting cranky and tired on those days and it usually pushes bed time about an hour earlier.
My LO is 7.5 months and we've been on 2 naps for the past month or so. The transition is hard because you have to stretch their awake time longer than they are used to so you have to be really good at entertaining them for that whole time before nap so they don't fall asleep on you. Also, it is totally normal to shift bedtime earlier at the beginning of the transition since the stretch from last nap to bedtime will be too long. We had to put her down a half hour early on some bad napping days. Once they consolidate and lengthen those 2 naps, you should be able to set bedtime back at regular time. Good luck!
Sorta in the same boat as the other ladies. 3rd nap has ALWAYS been hard... I think it will be some time before we go down to 2 and my LO is 6 months. When we miss the 3rd nap for whatever reason I end up putting him to bed early, like 630 pm and it doesn't affect his wake up (about 7 am)
BTW - how long can your LO's last between waking and the start of the next nap? Seems like we can only go 2 hours... 3 maybe at the end of the day. If we go too long he just gets overtired and impossible to put down. Makes it really hard to go run an errand during his wake period!
DS will be 8 months next week & we're currently in a transition from 3 to. 2. I personally think a 6 month old needs 3 naps tho. It could be a phase or maybe just do a longer stretch in between naps
It has made his wake up time at 7:30am instead of 6, so WIN!!! Haha
We do nap 2 hrs after wake up, then second nap is 3 hrs after last nap and bedtime is 3 hrs after that 2nd nap
My LO is 9months, she does two 2hr naps and one 45min nap. Occasionally we miss the 3rd nap, then she goes to bed after supper, but wakes 2hrs later. We usually let her get up and play 1.5-2hrs before putting her back down. I guess that counts as a 3rd nap still lol.
She does 11-13hrs sleep at night. She's up to feed every 2hrs still though.
Typically she gets a good 16-18hrs of sleep per 24hrs. She's always needed her sleep. When she's awake she is standing for hours on end or having us hold her hands and walk her around the house. all. day. long.
We've been going back and forth at 7.5 months, but there's a noticable difference when he doesn't take his third nap, he doesn't sleep well at all vs with the 3rd nap he can sleep through the night, I think the stretch to bedtime is just too long for him still.

Rhys fought his third nap starting between 6 and 7 months, when he didn't take it he was really cranky. Now he is able t stay up longer between his firs and second nap so we have phased out the third nap altogether without affecting bedtime.

We've been down to 2 naps a day for about 2 months so I guess around 4 months-ish. They are all so different in their sleep needs.
This baby is more like my first in his quick and easy sleep. He doesn't eat at night, just sleeps. He takes 1 2hr nap in the morning then another nap that varies between 1-2hrs in the afternoon. He sleeps 12-13hrs at night.
