rsv?

Have any of you moms had to deal with rsv yet? I am a nurse and a freako about it, maybe because I just see the worst cases. If you have what was your kid symptoms and what did you do?

Re: rsv?

  • My son had it, but he was born in Nov, so he was much younger than our babies his first winter. He ended up with a nebulizer but stopped short of hospitalization. I'm hoping this LO doesn't get it, but I'm also hoping that if she does, it won't be so bad since she is 6 months older. Is that thought process true? Here's hoping our LOs stay healthy, and those that have come down with it get better quickly!

  • We've been dealing with it since his 6 month appt. He is such a happy baby I had no clue he had it. We had to buy a nebulizer for albuterol and pulmicort treatments and we have an albuterol inhailor for him at DC. He gets raspy and short of breath a lot. You can feel the yuck in his lungs from his back sometimes. He's done the antibiotics, but he still has breathing treatments some as needed. He's not really had a fever with it either which is scary.

  • Now I'm nervous about R. He's been super mucusy these last few days. He started with sneezing a week ago but we chalked that up to it got up in the 70s here for a few days then got cold again around Christmas. I have to suck out his nose a few times a day and he hasn't been eating much. No real fever (today was 99.2) and not really coughing. But last night I could hear it sounded like his lungs had some fluid in them. This morning he sounded better. I hope it's not RSV but I may take him to the pedi tomorrow. Our office does a walk ins on Saturday
  • I did read that like 70% or some crazy high number of babies get it before year 1. So I'm sure a lot of us will be going through it. Hang in there mamas!

  • Mostly a lurker here but my LO had it a few weeks ago and it lasted for about 3 weeks. Not to scare anyone but I thought it was a nightmare. A fever at 103, wheezing, a cough, horrible congestion in her nose and chest. My LO also had a double ear infection that made everything worse. She was short of breath, almost gasping for air. We took her to the peds about 6 times and the hospital 2x. The nebulizer helped a lot!
  • C wen t to the pedi today. She said he has a viral thing. He's snotty and congested and has an ear infection:( we started antibiotics for the ear ache. Hopefully this goes away quickly. All these poor babies.

  • We had to take C to urgent care today. He's had a fever (last was 101.7), cough, lots of congestion and mucus. They diagnosed him with an ear infection. We are supposed to be traveling home tomorrow which is a 12+ hour trip. If we've not seen any improvement in a few days we will take him to his ped. I hope all these babies feel better soon!
  • My son currently has RSV, bronchiolitis and a double ear infection. I'm not gonna lie. It sucks. It's been really rough. I cancelled Christmas for obvious reasons. My husband and I are both sick now too.
Baby started with a fever that lasted 6 days - it stayed between 100-102.5. We used Tylenol to try to make him more comfortable. He was super snotty - when we went to the ER they used the super sucker which was amazing! He also had a scary cough that he would start gagging. We have albuterol for the breathing which works great. We did lots of saline, nose sucking, hot steamy bathrooms, cool mist humidor, Vicks vaporub and the plug in for the wall. He's still got it but just not as bad anymore.

  • I posted another post as well before I saw this one but here's the breakdown of what happened with DD:

Fever for 3 days with no source at all. Tested it it's Tylenol but it kept reoccurring so I took her to the Ped twice who told me it's viral but to keep monitoring it since there was no source. Fever went away and then the next day she started developing cold like symptom which we expected given the fever. Then about a day after that the coughing began. Her fever returned on Christmas Day and the coughing was so bad over night that I rushed her to the Ped the next morning. As soon as she saw her she said we'd most likely have to go to the ER but she did a nebulizer treatment to see if it helped. Thankfully, it did but she still sent us to ER. Once there they did a culture which and back positive for RSV and Adenovirus (the adeno explains the fever without a source. Because her lungs sounded so bad they did a chest X-ray which revealed that some pneumonia was brewing so they admitted us.

We've been here for almost 48 hours now and she is breathing much better and she's no longer wheezing but the cough is still there but no as bad (they said the cough can last for a month). They have her on an antibiotic for the pneumonia and she's getting a nebulizer treatment every 4 hours. She's also on an IV, at night, because her appetite has gone away and is barely eating, which is normal with everything going on.

Hoping she begins to eat and we can go home today.
