Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Nap meltdown.

Hello all! My LO is 6.5 months. She goes down well at night and sleeps until morning. We've always struggled with naps but after a couple minutes of fussing, she usually goes straight down. Two days ago she started protesting her naps completely. Her screams prompted me to pull her out the first few times and let her reset. As soon as we get downstairs, she's happy, and then she falls asleep nursing or in the car 20 minutes later. I've ruled out spacing her naps and hunger. Id say teething, but she doesn't fuss when she's awake (except when our usual nap time approaches). The second we sit down for our nap book, she totally loses it. We used controlled crying for her naps before, which she took to well. I've been going in to reassure her, but she continues to yell.
Has anyone else gone through this? I'm at a loss for what to do.

Re: Nap meltdown.

  • Yes, been there. Still am at 8 months ( it comes and goes). When she gets too wound up to settle down, I pick her up and we "watch TV" which means I rock her while she watches this baby Einstein sea scapes thing that plays music and has sea animals that move around. It hypnotizes her for LO g enough to settle down. As soon as she starts trying to sit up and grab at it, back in the crib she goes and falls asleep. Works 90% of the time. Maybe find something that holds her attention like that to get her to sit still and slow her breathing back to normal after a meltdown?
