New Year's resolutions: Spill 'em

So I'm not always so big on resolutions bc
1) they can be boring
2) I don't really want other people hounding me about whether I stuck to them and
3) I try to incorporate changes throughout the year.

But, that said, I've decided I'm actually going to make a few this year. So what do you ladies have on your lists?

Re: New Year's resolutions: Spill 'em

  • Mine so far include:
    1) Stop wasting so much, especially food. I cleaned out our pantry yesterday, where I found doubles and triples of many uneaten, now stale items -- apparently I love to buy graham crackers, but I don't love to eat them.
    2) I want to incorporate one new recipe into our meal plan rotation each week -- and it needs to be a healthy one.
    3) I'm planning ahead for birthdays -- buying cards a month at a time, setting alerts on my phone. I actually neglected to call my SIL on her bday this year bc I was that preoccupied. Not cool.

  • No more candy since I have been on a sugar overload. It won't be for the whole year, but I would like to hold off until after DS2 is born. I'm also not a big resolutioner.
  • 1) Drink more water.  I was awesome when I was pregnant and early on in breastfeeding, but I've fallen totally off the water wagon.

    2) Not really a resolution, but create a list of household projects and plan out when to do them with DH.  I am so tired of saying "we'll paint the laundry room...sometime."

  • This year was the only resolution I have every kept. I "jokingly" told everyone I would not get pregnant in 2013. (I was in 2010,2011,2012)

This year (on a more serious note) I want to be less angry.

I buy the whole year's worth of cards in January, write in and sign all of them, address all of them, and keep them in my desk with the list of birthdays.  Then I mail them a week or so in advance of the birthday.  I actually sent every card on time last year, lol.
Seriously brilliant. I may steal this idea.

  • I plan on cutting out all pop. When I drink it I'm more sluggish and thirstier than when I started. Not good.

Also we'll look into our budget, reevaluate and save more.

Get back into the gym and be more active.

  • I start my new job Jan 2, so we are looking at the new year as a new start.  We had a rough year financially, so ours are this:

    1) save more
    2) be proactive about house maintenance
    3) budget for things like clothes, household stuff like blinds, paint, etc.

Personally, I want to do this:

    1) drink more water
    2) eat less sweets - I have a MAJOR sweet tooth
    3) eat out less

  • My New Year's resolution is to survive 2014, and keep the kids alive.

I'm still scared to be a 2u2 mom, though I've almost survived my first month, and today I had a completely successful trip to the grocery store without a single tear.

I also need to survive moving in January.  I have no idea when/how packing will happen, though DH assures me it will...

I'd love to learn how to cook more from scratch and cut down the cost of my grocery bill, but I think that's too much to ask in addition to my first resolution... maybe I can do that in 2015.
Yeah, there's some experimentation to learn what's worth DIYing and what you really are better off just buying from the store.  There are a few things that you just don't save money on or gain much healthwise from making yourself, and other things that are great money-savers or you avoid a lot of processed junk by going from scratch.

  • Mine are to drink more water and to use new recipes.  I'm starting to meal plan, which I hope is successful, but if I can just change things up a bit from the rotation of the same 10 things all the time, I'll be happy.

You still have a few days. ;)
AF is here so I'm safe.  :P
  • Boring stuff
    1) lose weight. This isn't really a resolution but my 6wk PP check up happened to fall on the 31st which means I'll probably be able to start exercising and for real dieting.

    2) yell less. I need to do this, I have no clue how... I'm sure I should buy books and stuff.

    3) have more intentional activities with the kids.

    BFP #2 11/30/09 EDD 08/12/10- Sophia Grace born 8/1/10
    BFP #3 11/16/10 EDD 08/04/11- Samuel Richard born 7/28/11

    BFP #5 03/27/13 EDD 11/25/13- Savannah Lee born 11/18/13
  • 1. I really want to be able to touch my toes. Running has made me so not flexible.

    2. Budget since I will be in school starting in May for 2 years and I will no longer be bringing home the bacon.

    3. More sex.

    4. Continue to be engaging to Elliot but do more with her.

These are mine and I am copying a few from last year that I need to work on more
    1. Move more. Last year a bunch of us at school would run/walk on some afternoons after out contract hours. I did (most of) a C25K. Need to get back into this.
    2. Read more. I love to read but find myself zoning out in front of the TV or iPad/iPhone at night.
    3. Cont meal planning but need to be more aware of portion sizes.
    4. Spend 15 min a day picking up the house and putting things back in their place.

  • I have several, but all pretty boring:
    1. Drink more water
    2. Exercise more regularly
    3. Make a new recipe every so often
    4. Clean/ de-clutter one drawer, closet, etc every week
    5. Unplug from technology more

  • My major one is to eat out only 3 times a week. This includes breakfast lunch and dinner. Dh gets in habits of eating out for lunch all the time . We also live within a mile of every possible restaurant and while I've been pregnant we have ordered out dinner a lot soo fed up with it.
One breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner a week would be nice!
This goes with it Grocery shop and meal plan weekly
  • 1. Less coke
    2. Improve my mile time to 9min
    3. Run a 10k
    4. Pause for 3 seconds before scolding the kids
    5. Lose 10 inches (mostly from the waist/hips, but I'll take it anywhere).

  • hmmm

1.) budget, not a half ass one but a real budget
2.) make a plan to accomplish one semi-real task each month.  January will most likely be cleaning out the office and painting it for LO#2s nursery
3.) Do more activities with DD.  We do the same things every day and my solution to change it up is to bring DD shopping. Not good for my wallet.

  • Take better care of myself - I have had a nagging back pain for 5 months now. I went to the chiro for a while, then stopped. I need to get a full body derm scan after all the tanning and burning I did in the 90s. I need to get my thyroid under control and actually schedule an appt to figure out why my period still hasn't returned.

More time with DH. The baby can come too, occasionally, but we come home and virtually ignore each other every night. I think the only reason we talk sometimes is because we commute to work together.

Be nicer to DH. I am a type A perfectionist and get ridiculously irritated when he does something a different way then I would. His way is not wrong, just different. I need to cut him some slack.

    Kid #1 - 09/03/12
    Kid #2 - maybe???
    Diagnosed with Severe Ashermans
Hysteroscopy #10 - scar tissue grew back reblocking my right tube
#11 or IVF with scarring still inside?
1 lone embryo from September 2016 retreival, dx with Trisomy 16, starting fresh
  • I've never made a New Year's Resolution...I always view them as a thing you do for a few months before it gets old so I'm hesitant to call it that.  My goal for myself is really just to start taking better care of myself.  After 2 years of being nonstop pregnant, I've really let myself fall into frumpty-dumpty status and I just haven't been making the time for ME.  Even small things like washing my face before bed haven't been getting done, and I'm tired of always feeling yucky.  Included in this new plan for myself is: minimum 3 times/week in the gym, gel nails/eyebrow wax every 2 weeks, massage every 2 months, actually shaving my legs, wearing perfume, doing something with my hair other than pulling it back while wet (at least 2 days per week...gotta start somewhere), and investing in nice clothing that fits me.  It's an ongoing project, but I'm determined not to "let myself go".
These are resolutions I can get behind!

  • Taking care of myself and trying to live a healthy life. I suppose this encompasses everything.

And it starts tomorrow. I don't think to days of biscuits n gravy for breakfast are "taking care of myself,"
