Strangest/worst gift you have received

Since we are fresh in the holiday season, I thought we could share a laugh or a jaw drop

Here goes:
Two years ago my IL's put fuzzy socks in all the stockings for girls/daughters. (This was right after our first IVF attempt, no one knew) I read the BIG warning label on the socks that said something along the lines of 'this product is manufactured with a chemical known to cause health problems, specifically infertility' WTF!?! I'm mean a really big WTF!!! Those went in the trash so fast and I washed my hands for 5 minutes.

It's so sad something like that can even be sold

It makes the soaps that we get in our stockings that are swiped from hotels look like gold

(Edited: healthy was supposed to be health! Oops!)

Wow @kmc84 - a serious WTF! Mine would be a cross from my dad. My dad has always given my sisters and I cash, until last year when he discovered the Internet. He gave us all a cross and chain. The problem - I'm 99.9% sure the crosses were men's....so they were huge....I'm also 99.9% sure they were used and bought on eBay as my sisters had some type of engraving on it. Bahahahha that was a tough one to fake a happy expression on for sure! Another doozy was my Now BIL - first time my sister brought him to the extended family Christmas; my aunt gave him a gift.....so thoughtful.....yeah; the gift was a paper airplane kit; ages 8 and up. Hahhaa.

When I was dating my hubby, his mother gave me a pair of fishtight knee high stockings and a poncho, it was store bought, but it looked like it was crocheted. I mean who buys clothes for their son's girlfriend? I dunno, it was weird.

DH's grandma always gets us a totally weird anniversary present. To date, we've gotten: grill tongs, an ice cream scoop, and a bottle of olive oil (which came with the following story, verbatim: "it's made at a convent in California, where they raise AIDS babies, and they all die. It's very sad. Happy anniversary!"). You cannot make this stuff up.

This year, my ILs gave us a framed picture of themselves. We've started hiding it in different places around the house to scare one another. There are few things that terrify DH more than his mother coming to visit.

Yikes! These are some weird presents you guys got!

DH has a relative who has some minor mental problems. I've never met him and Dh probably hasn't seen him since DH was a child. Anyway, he sent us a gift when M was born. Honestly we couldn't tell what it was. It was like a little doll dress but used as a hand towel? It was beyond creepy (think Americana-style).

Then a gift from him came for M's first birthday. We opened the package and it was a box of store-brand cheerios... except it appeared to have been opened and re-taped shut?! So I though, okay, he sent M some cheerios? But the sell-by date was like 2012. I told DH to toss it in the garbage, but I decided to give the box a shake first. And there was no sound. Finally we opened it and inside was actually a kind of creepy-looking gingerbread man doll! We both laughed out hysterically, and I kind of felt bad thinking that the relative had sent us an expired box of half-eaten cheerios...

As I said on my other post, my ILs gave us a 3.5 lb box of almonds for Xmas. I thought that was weird too...

DH's aunt sent the kids some gifts last year. They were some winter hats (fine) and each a box of $0.99 bandaids. Don't get me wrong, the kids loved them, I was just wondering why she felt the need to send dollar store bandaids? The shipping cost more!

This is a great post! My best stories were from my husband, he has always hated christmas and presents because he feels let down, well this year sealed it for me and I truly understand why. When he was about 11 his grandma sent him a set of silverware. But this year his mom wrapped up a box of crappy little fireworks that he had bought in college about 8 years ago and had left at their house stowed away in a box. It was literally like getting garbage. He was so insulted and sad. That was the only thing he got from his parents.

This is actually really sad. For somebody who expresses love through buying the perfect gift for people I just can't even imagine that...

I love this thread. I think the oddest things we got for the twins this year was a bag filled with those huge Lindt chocolate bars from a second cousin. Don't get me wrong I had a great time diggin in, but the gift tag clearly indicated they were for the babes. Who buys almost one year olds 6 bars of chocolate?
