Getting ready to ttc!

We're "officially" ttc as of Jan1 because that's when my STD is effective, but because Jan1 is actually a fertile time for me and you can't give birth within 9 months of the effective date, we're not "really" trying until after my next cycle (mid-January). But we're getting so close!! We were actually going to start trying this cycle until we did the math and it would give us a late Sept due date. It would be doable, but it would be so much more comforting knowing that we have that STD in case we need it.

Anyone else getting close to that time??

I'm confused. Your "STD is effective"?  Explain please.

How do you "know" Jan 1 is a "fertile time" for you?  Are you bbt temping and charting?

And LOL at "math" preventing you from TTC, haha

    Edit: More words

Don't worry, I'm working on it.

  • Short-term disability. My coverage starts Jan 1 but birth isn't covered within the first 9 months. Which technically means even if I get pregnant the first week of coverage, the birth wouldn't be covered. Blows. But it is what it is.

Ovulation tests. So, assuming my cycle continues as it has been, next week should be when I ovulate.
  • True. Heck, I might not even be able to get pregnant at all! But it sure is exciting to get ready to find out!
  • What happens if you have complications and the baby is born early? Do you pay oop? I wouldn't risk it.

  • STD is extremely helpful if you need to take time off work because of pregnancy complications or having health issues with an infant. Very common causes of this would be being put on bed rest in the 3rd trimester or having a premature birth. Sounds like if you get pregnant right away, if you wind up really needing STD, you may not have it anyways.

Just something to think about. Maybe I am unclear how it works. We have it through employer insurance and have had it for years so I have never considered the details in depth with timing.
  • Complications of pregnancy are covered beginning Jan 1. An early birth wouldn't be covered, which is why a late oct expected date is what we're aiming for. We're not really concerned with an early delivery since we'll be fine with or without the coverage. We just wanted to give ourselves a shot at using the coverage by waiting an extra month. Just a little extra peace of mind is all. :)
  • Sounds perfect, good luck ttc! I will be right there with you. We are going to ttc in January for the first time. I am so nervous/excited/going crazy over here. :)
  • Everything MandJS said - I have been temping 3 cycles and have learned so much. I dont think we will use OPKs. The temperature increase assures me I have ovulated on schedule all 3 months, and the other changes let me know (for free) that I was about to ovulate. You really should try it.
  • I'm excited to getting ready to start TTC in March (when we decided together). I started charting this cycle and am going to take an OPK on Monday. It seems like I'm gearing up already based on cm but I'm oddly excited to get to POAS even if it isn't a pregnancy test lol.
