bed rails - help!

We are planning to transistion our 2 year old to her big girl bed soon.  We will be putting her in a twin bed, not a toddler bed.  Do I need to get bed rails, or can I go without?  If I do need rails, does anyone have any recommendations for a good one?

Re: bed rails - help!

  • We put DS right into a twin bed and put it in the corner.  We put a bedrail on the open side of the bed and put a body pillow on the side against the wall. for the first few months we would often find DS up against the rail, so I would defintily recommend one until DD gets used to sleeping in the bed.  Plus, it kind of makes it still feel like a secure crib instead of a big open bed.

The bed rail is by Safety First (I think it is the Secure Top Bed Rail, but they may have redesigned it because the one on the website looks different).  It secures to the top of the mattress and actually goes in ontop of the mattress a couple inches, which I really like because there is no way a kid could get trapped between the mattress and the rail (a lot of the rails just go against the side of the mattress, not on top of the mattress).  We used it for a year and never had any problems.  It folds down when you have to change the sheets.
