Name dilemma.

So...I have no clue what we're having. Probably won't find out until the birth...but I have a dilemma.

I have a boy's name...but haven't even considered a girl's name because I really would like a boy.

I don't have any preferences other than. I prefer a name with a Celtic flare.
Baby will be redheaded and needs a good celtic name to match;-)

Any ideas at all?

I don't understand how this is a dilemma.
You want a boy and have a boys name.
You don't want a girl and don't have a girls name.
If you are looking for suggestions why not just ask instead of saying this is a dilemma?
Also, there are 6ish months to make a decision. Lots of time, and lots of resources including the aforementioned baby name board.

Yes I have lots of time....but I have a really hard time with names. It's an OCD thing with me.
I tend to have panic attacks if things or decisions aren't made in a certain time frame.
Yes it seems stupid...but the mind can be a terrible thing;-)
I know it'll have red hair because my husband and I are both redheaded. Our last daughter...the only one we have together...is a brilliant redhead.
Yes...we could have a blonde....but the chances are slimmer than red;-)
  • Quite possible....but I love my redheads;-) keep on wishing even though we already have one. A little redheaded boy;-)
  • Too general of a question.  If you  have a short list of names you like we may be better able to help.  Otherwise sky is the limit! :)

Ohhhh....Isla is quite beautiful. Is Bronwyn a girl's name?
  • Rowan "little red one"
  • Bronwyn sounds welsh?

  • Bronwyn is a girls name. We has Bronwyn Elise picked out if Ryan had been a girl. DH's family is only 2 generations removed from Ireland so we were looking for Celtic names as well even though Bronwyn is Welsh not Irish, it is still Celtic.

  • I know you were asking for boy's names but my little ginger's name is Eowyn. It is very unusual and we just love it. Pronounced A-oh-win. And we are currently looking for a celtic-ish boy's name. On our current list includes Galen, Kian, Kalen, Keegan and Soren.

Our fingers are also crossed for another ginger.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • Most people on this board will automatically tell you to switch to the name board, but I'm going to go ahead and jump in with some suggestions because a.) I occasionally stalk/post on that board, b.) get a strange fascination out of the beauty of names, c.) loooove Celtic and Irish names, d.) also am a redhead and dream of a gorgeous redheaded baby (my hopes are high- four of my siblings are redheads, husband has a redheaded father and sister, and he is a pale blond who grows red facial hair. Odds are in my favor)

I am going to include Celtic, Irish, Gaelic, and Welsh names, because they are all related in origin. Even going to throw in a couple Tolkein names, because they fit the feel ;). Some of my favorites are:

    Aeronwen
Aideen (means "fire" - fitting on a redhead)
    Aoife (pronounced Eefa)
    Anwen
    Arwen
    Avalon
    Bronwyn
    Eowyn
    Endewyn
    Fiona
    Genevieve
    Guinevere
    Gwendolyn
    Maeve
    Niamh (pronounced Neave)
    Rhiannon
    Riona
    Saoirse (pronounced Searsha)

Eowyn is very pretty! I also wanted to thank you for your service. I finally can see siggies and read yours.

I think she was actually looking for girls' names. Eowyn is a gorgeous name that also made it onto the list I was typing up while you were posting this. Everything I've looked up shows that it was actually created by Tolkein, so it's not historically a Celtic name but does fit in quite beautifully to the group.

Yup. Definitely Tolkien. But defintiely fits the feel. And I LOVE the story of the character - a butt kicking diplomatically minded princess. Covers all bases and totally fits our family.

Reading comprehension FAIL. Sadly, it is unlikely to be my last.
