Quad results

As some of you might have read, my A/S on the 23rd showed 2 soft markers for downs. I was a mess all week. Had my blood drawn that day for the quad screen. Had to call the doctors office anyway to get my materniT21 script and asked them if my results are back. The nurse says "I can't give those results but let me see if they are back... Ok yes they are back, I'll have the midwife call you" so then I basically tell her I've been a mess and please have her call me right away. Anyway 10 horrible minutes later I get the call my Quad screen came back negative and my odds are back to normal for my age (something like 1:9000)!!!!!! I know this is not definitive but I'm only 23 and this really helps me feel better. They said if my quad was fine, they didn't recommend any further testing but I'm still going to get the MaterniT21 test. Anyone know the exact odds with a negative quad screen? Or is it like I thought where it is based on age?

Re: Quad results

  • I'm not sure about your question but wanted to say congrats for the great news!

  • It's based on age. I would ask for a copy of at least the exact ratios. But if it came back negative, I wouldn't worry too much about the exact numbers.
  • The quad screen doesn't tell you yes or no, just your chances. It sounds like good news, congrats,

  • Congratulations! I just got my results from Maternit21 back this morning (negative- yay!!!). I *think* it's based more on specifics (age, race etc.). My U/S tech told me my 1:74 odds were based on if they were to put 74 pregnant women my age, of my race and my weight all in a room together, 73 would have a healthy baby (as far as trisomy goes) and 1 would not.
Hope that helps. Obviously I am no expert, just going off what she told me.
  • What a relief for you! I would probably want to do a 2nd test as well, for reassurance. I'm AMA so besides the AFP test, my OB recommended the Harmony test because during my transition from my OOT OB to my regular OB, I didn't get an NT scan. Both tests came back very low risk, and my a/s didn't show any abnormalities in development or measurements. So we are confident that everything is fine. I felt good after having the AFP and a/s results, but the Harmony test results felt like good insurance.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Yay!!!!! Sounds like great odds to me!

  • I don't like how the Quads can always make you nervous because it never rules anything out.  BUT, after I got the Verifi (which is a different brand of the Matern21)...that stuff if like 99.8 percent and I breathed a sigh of relief.

  • Yay for the good news!
