Anyone sleeping seperately with baby?

I'm staying home with baby and since DH has to work long hours, I sent him to sleep in the guest room during work days so he can rest. On weekends he sleeps in our room with baby and I and helps with LO. Anyone else have an arrangement like this?

I didn't mind at first, and I still don't, but tonight I'm particularly missing having hubby in the same bed with me. :-/

Re: Anyone sleeping seperately with baby?

  • I am sleeping on the love seat with LO and my SO has been sleeping on the couch. I miss sharing a bed with him. Atleast we are in the same room though. I imagine he will start sleeping in our room before LO and I do.

  • I miss sleeping with DH too. He's been sleeping on the couch while baby and I sleep in the bed together. He wakes up early for work and I don't want baby to wake him up. I sleep til about 11 am anyway.

  • Yeah DH is having a very stressful time at work so he's sleeping in the guest room. I'm less stressed about LO crying, he does tend to grizzle a little then settle, before that I was picking him up right away so as not to wake DH
  • H is sleeping in the guest room. I rally, rally miss him.

  • I slept in the recliner in the nursery for about the first week we were home bc I couldn't sleep flat bc of my c/s. We also didn't have the monitor set up yet {we have like the world's most complicated monitor I feel like!}. I'm much happier sleeping with DH in my own bed.
  • I nap on the couch with LO in her rnp next to me. I don't think you can really call 1 hour every few hours sleep. We are planning on moving into the bedroom with the pnp now that all the Christmas presents I hid in the bedroom are gone.

  • DH and I are sleeping in the same bed. I figured if I'm up he can suffer a bit too. I understand he has to work but if I'm not functioning it isn't safe either for Jack. I do enjoy snuggling with him. Oh how I missed that when I was pregnant! And amazingly there is room in the bed! I didn't realize how big I was until now!

  • At least all of us are not alone. I was wondering how long the every few hours thing will last, and when it will be that he may start regularly sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches.

  • As many of u said, nice to know I'm not alone. I was starting to feel embarrassed that we were sleeping separately. DH has a week off right now for the holidays so he's back in our bed till January! He's been doing one of the feeds at night right now..I know I'm really going to miss this when he's back to work!
  • No separate sleeping for this STM. I bought a Arms Reach co sleeper this time. Working great. LO is close and so is DH

Yes. We have LO set up in the 4th bedroom in the basement because DH and I take shifts(I EP). He takes the first feeding since he is generally up til after midnight anyway so he is downstairs watching tv etv while I sleep in bed, and then he comes and gets me when LO wakes up the 2nd time and we switch.

  • I thought DH was going to go sleep on the couch last night because DD wouldn't stop groaning and grunting (she doesn't really cry). Turns out she peed up her back and was soaked but I couldn't feel it through the double swaddling blankets. Her diaper wasn't even full either, it must have just been the way she was laying. Then she refused to sleep in her bassinet and would only sleep next to me. By the time she fell back asleep DH's alarm clock was ringing.

  • That sucks @lp0198; same thing actually happened to me this morning. @nursetrina agreed, when we were first home with LO before I had adjusted to the sleep deprivation, DH would hand LO off to me and go right to sleep. I would sit there with baby chewing my nips off, listening to DH comfortably snore and my stabiness would reach epic proportions, lol.

  • 10-3 husband sleeps in the bed with the dogs and ear plugs while I'm on the couch with the LO in the playpen
3-8 I sleep in the bed with the dogs and ear plugs while husband sleeps on the couch with the LO in the play pen.  Then when I get up I have to pump the crap out of my overfull jugs.
It's worth it though for 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I do miss sleeping in the same bed, but realize it's only temporary.
