I updated my previous post but I don't think it got bumped.
my pediatrician is a dumbass. She said the ONLY treatment was laser treatments for these kinds of birthmarks. Well, we had the ultrasound, they okayed us for treatments in San Francisco, we drive all the way out here and they gave us a topical and an oral med with a topical pain ointment instead. THANK GOD. After the initial sting of the topical pain ointment (I can't spell right now...shoot me) she melted in my arms and giggled for the first time in a few weeks. MH and I have ceased crying tears of relief now that she is out of pain and we are going to take a nice drive across the Golden Gate Bridge rather than jump off it. thank you for your support ladies. It truly means a lot to me.
Just bc I'm in the medical field and oober curious, I'd like to know the names of the meds. I love learning new things. But if that's giving out too much info i understand.
Oh yay, I'm so glad to hear she is feeling better! Sorry your pedi is a ratard, but glad the specialist had a trick up their sleeve that is less invasive.

I've been thinking about you and LO. Every time I look at the one on my daughter's chest I thought about you guys. I'm SO happy to hear this news. Sorry you had to go so far to get it, but glad she's feeling better.
@lemsa sorry it took me so long to get back to you! They sent her prescription to Minnesota, and since we are in California, that was a bit of a hiccup. They put her on a low dose of propanolol, and they gave her lidocaine ointment and metronidazole gel.
Propranolol? That's a wonderful Blood pressure med. regulates heart rate. Heart irregularities. Wonder why they use it for that. This is why I'm nosey--I learn a lot. Did they say why propranolol?
Lidocaine is great for pain. Metronidazole gel is good for infection, so if they think there's a superinfection going on because of the bleeding.

I'm stumped about the propranolol.
Please don't flame me too much, but I heard "no laser" and was totally sold, and I didn't ask a lot of questions. They put the Lidocaine on in the middle of his prescription talk, and she screamed for a half hour till it kicked in. I believe it has something to do with the blood vessels (the BM) so that particular med helps shrink it down. MH was listening more and taking notes, I'll ask him when he gets home.
It started shrinking and dulling sometime after she turned a year. There's a flat, slightly grey spot but you have to be looking for it to see it. When the pedi said that'd be the case I never believed them!

That's wonderful!! Thank you for sharing that with me!
My daughter has a hemangioma as well, and has been on propranolol since she was a few weeks old. It has just now started showing signs of graying and the texture is getting flatter.
I didn't see your first post but where is Alabama's located? My daughters is on her ear lobe but luckily not in her ear.

Lidocaine is great for pain.
Metronidazole gel is good for infection, so if they think there's a superinfection going on because of the bleeding.
I'm stumped about the propranolol.
