3rd Trimester

Low Amniotic Fluid

Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm a FTM, recently diagnosed with GD, and had an ultrasound at 31 weeks (I'm now 32 weeks + 2 days) to check on the size of the baby to make sure she wasn't too big. My doctor loved how she looked and she's growing fine, but he mentioned that my amniotic fluid level was at 10 cm. He said it wasn't bad, but wasn't good either and to increase my fluid intake and rest more, that they will only worry if it drops below 10 cm. I've been pretty leaky on and off for the past couple of weeks, but never really put two and two together seeing as you get a lot of discharge during pregnancy, but this is clear and watery. I've also been having crazy Braxton Hicks contractions for the past couple of days and diarrhea. Are these any signs of concern? I don't want to go to the ER on a Sunday or call my Dr. because I do have an appointment in the morning, but I'm just curious if any of you had experience with this and how it went for you. Thank you for any advice! :)

  • If you think you're leaking AF, you need to call L&D. They will probably want you to come in and make sure everything is okay.

Thank you for the reply. :) I think I will give them a call just to be on the safe side.

No problem. I went in last week to L&D for the same reason even though I was pretty sure LO just made me pee myself and it wasn't AF. Spent an hour there, had a sonogram and fluid check, everything came back great! But DH and I definitely slept better that night knowing 100% that baby girl was okay.

  • I had low fluid and had to be on bed rest and drink 120oz of water a day.  You need to drink a lot of water and take it easy. The more you do the lower it gets.

  • I've had it as low as 5. My doc only worries if it's under 5 but everyone is different. Drinking tons of water seems to help me. It was 12 today.
  • I had low AFI, but it was a placenta issue, not a leaking issue. I got down to a 3 and was hospitalized for 4 weeks until DD was delivered at 36 weeks due to distress.

  • I"m at 7 cm and they told me just to increase my fluid intake a bunch. I'm 34 weeks. Good luck and I hope everything goes well with you and your LO
  • Thank you for your advice, ladies! I drank and drank and apparently that did the trick. :) Fluid levels are back up to 12.4!
