August 2013 Moms

NewYear Resolutions

I'm not sure if it's too soon to start this, but this board has been kinda slow the past few days and I'm on the couch snuggling.. So... Anyone got one in mind?

I've got three extremely original ones: lose weight/live healthier, swear less, and I'm going to try and follow the following: if I don't have anything nice to say, I'm keeping my mouth shut :-)

So basically I should be able to succeed as long as someone duct tapes my mouth.

  • @nikkid522. I'm with you on all three of those.

Eating healthier, exercising more, no more excuses for that stuff. I also need to cut down swearing and try and be a more positive person, in general. I've started (minus the healthy part... the holidays are hard :() with trying to be a better person in general, and I'm getting there. :) Gotta be the best for the little one :D

  • I start a new job on the 6th. It's a temp-to-hire position that is in a perfect location for me. I resolve to work my ass off so they hire me permanently.

  • I need to get a better handle on my house. My motivation flew out the window a while back and I need to force it to return. So I resolve to get on a better cleaning schedule and keep to it.
  • I am jumping on the "getting into shape" bandwagon. I was a runner before LO but haven't had time since DH has gone back to work. We recently bought an elliptical, but DH has to tighten the screws on it tonight so I didn't get my half hour in today. :(

  • Get into shape.

Better balance mommy hood & wife life.

Work on my style. I feel so drab lately. :(

    My baby is ONE!!

  • I want to learn to let things go.

I dwell now. I can't let things off my back. I want to work on this so I can be happier. Any tips on how to do this are appreciated;)

I THINK we've had this thread already. But I probably just dreamed it.

Of course I have the good ol' "stop being fat and disgusting" resolution that I have every year.

Stop swearing in front of the baby and get more consistent with sign language.

And opposite to you @nikkiD522 I'm going to speak my mind more. I'm getting sick of being walked all over and I deserve better.

Oh yea, keep the baby alive. Very important.

Did we? I completely missed it if we did.. Sorry!! Oh and I would like to add "keep baby alive" to my list :-)

  • Im doing a half marathon this year. Disneyland half in aug if any of you ladies would like to join. Registration is in jan. I was a runner before pregnancy and was training for tinker bell half when I got pregnant. But morning sickness kicked my ass and couldn't run.

Also would like to make it a point to be better at balancing being a wife and a mom.

I am so jealous! I have always wanted to do the Tinkerbell Run! My sister in law regularly does the Disneyland marathons so you might just run by her!

  • I'm jumping on the "quit being a fatty" wagon!
  • I need to make it to 2014 without dick punching someone, then I'll take it from there. This week and next I'll be working 50 hours......in retail. I hope I make it, then I gotta figure out what my resolution would be, lol.

  • DH and I have vowed to make every single one of our meals for the entire year and see how much money we save.

That's awesome- I expect updates! Are you going to allow any exceptions? Like eat out once a month? I've wanted to do this.. But I'm not sure I can handle anymore resolutions...

  • The leader at my BF support group today told us that our NYR should be to give ourselves a break and appreciate ourselves for doing such a good job at such a hard thing. I just thought that was so sweet, it made me tear up and...oh look, here I go again *sniff*

  • Stick to weightwatchers, more time with hubby, keep up with the house better, and have a more active lifestyle
  • DH and I have vowed to make every single one of our meals for the entire year and see how much money we save.

There was a couple who went back to 1980 for a year. No new technology, simple lifestyle, crazy hair, etc., and they saved a ton of money.

I've always wanted to do something like this as a way of looking at how DH and I live and what we should/ could change.

I want to go plastic free for the month of January and go from there.

Keep us updated. This sounds great for you and your family.

  • One I am taking from a friend's NYR last year: Own my own fabulousness!
I gave a tendency to downplay any compliment I get, so my goal is to own it! Not in a conceited way. When told: "Your hair looks amazing" answer with "thanks, I think I've perfected the curling iron curls!" Instead of "oh, it's just like this because I slept on it wet and couldn't flat iron it"

Also being more healthy. Yes, to drop some weight, but more importantly, to set myself up to be a great role model for lo. My mom always obsessed about her weight and even harped on me in early high school about my weight (I was under 100 lbs). I want to show lo how to eat healthy, be active and feel good about herself, inside and out.
  • Mine is to make more mom friends. I love her to death, but when one of my girlfriends compared having a kitten to having a newborn the other day I nearly punched her teeth out.
I'd also like to get a better handle on organizing & balancing activities for the LOs, housework & cooking healthy meals for the family. Basically I wanna be Suzy f'ing homemaker this year.

I would like to do this, too. I'm afraid it would be too drastic for MH, though. I tried using only old cloth diapers as "paper" towels in the kitchen in hopes it would cut down on money, but the bastard had bought paper towels and was hiding them in the garage. Lol. That's my man right there!

  • In 2014 I resolve to be fearless without being reckless. Spontaneous without being impetuous. A good role model without being a paragon.

    That's hilarious!

Another money saver is to unplug your electronics like cell phone chargers, computer etc...I always mean to do this and I NEVER do. It was actually pretty insane to see how much our electric bill went up when I was on maternity leave and had the tv on all day.

We want to buy a house or a piece of land with a treehouse on it, IDC (just something that is ours) at some point in our lifetime.

I'm open to any and all tried and true tips and tricks to save money

I really, really like this idea. I would be disgusted to find out how much we spent on eating out this year.

Does this include always making your own coffee too as opposed to buying an occasional one?

I told DB about your resolution and his response was "ya but then we'd be spending more money on groceries." Idiot the difference would still be there.

DB used to live with his uncle who did this so it was something he had to start doing also. Everything had to unplugged - lamps, TV, microwave, everything.

His uncle was also a cheapass though and told him once that I had to stop coming over as often because my extra toilet flushing was using too much water.

No resolutions, just ready to say goodbye to 2013. It was the best and worst year of my life and I'm ready to coast through 2014. My emotions need a break.
