Pregnant after a Loss

Still Pregnant...(vent)

I am still pregnant, no holiday baby for us. I feel a bit defeated, even though I know how incredibly blessed we are. I spent a good part of yesterday in tears. We have presents for the baby and I really wanted her to be able to wear her Christmas dress. The doctor has been saying that I will go fast, I won't make it through the holiday, she is ready, get to the hospital quickly etc. I don't think I believe them anymore.

My induction is set for Monday and cannot be done any earlier, they do not do them on the weekend and I have no medical reason for an earlier induction. Hospital policy dictates it must be 41 weeks or later. Monday is fine as long as all goes well and I get released Tuesday, the problem lies if I have to stay till Wednesday which is the first of the year. Our insurance changes from individual plans to a family plan. We are very fortunate to have decent insurance and I have met my deductible and only have around $700 co-insurance left to pay for this year. But with the family plan our deductible doubles and our co-insurance goes up 2.5 times. The hospital wasn't even willing to give me an estimate of cost. They said they would work with me after everything was billed and I could do payments. I know I shouldn't worry about this, but financially it is a worry.

No real point to this other than to vent. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday.

Re: Still Pregnant...(vent)

  • Your LO one might thank you later (and you can lay on the guilt/play the martyr card if needed) for having let her hang out a few extra days ... having a Christmas Eve birthday (I do) kindof sucks!  A few days after allows more opportunity for celebrating with friends once old enough for that to matter.  And you can still have her wear her Christmas dress - there's 11 days left until Epiphany/Twelfth Night!  It's totally still the Christmas season!

That said, I hope she hurries up and comes on out soon, especially before your insurance changes over.  So sad that our system is set up in a way that people have to worry about these things!

I hope you won't find this offensive - it's only meant for some comic relief. (hey, is laughter supposed to help stimulate labor?):
I'm getting a mental image of a cartoon (unfortunately I can't draw!  Anyone else out there who can?) of someone in your situation doing, simultaneously, all the things that are either officially or by OWT supposed to help get labor going - climbing stairs while eating spicy food while stimulating nipples (though of course avoiding contact between spicy food and nipples) ... what else should be included?

Not offensive...definitely funny. What about trying to have sex while doing all of those things. That would make for some laughs.

I completely understand the frustration. Here's the silver lining: with an induction Monday you should have a baby by Tuesday and thus get the child tax credit for 2013... And a rainbow baby, too!
Didn't think about that. Maybe that will help with the hospital bills.

  • I am so sorry LO is making you wait! I hope she comes soon!
On a side note...I was secretly hoping we would have our LO before the new year (even though he would be 2weeks early) for the same reason. Our insurance changed for the new year and our deductable is going up, not to mention having met it for this year already.
So I hope things work out for you!
