Still a really clumsy walker?

At S3's 15m visit the pedi mentioned she was concerned enough about his physical coordination to want to refer me to EI, obviously I didn't have a problem with it.

He didn't sit unassisted until 9mo but he also crawled before he sat, as in he started crawling and 2 days later began sitting unassisted, so we just chalked it up to him being lazy. With crawling he would topple forward and bang his head off the ground. With walking its more obvious, he's been walking since right after his birthday (9/6) and while he doesn't crawl anymore he's not exactly an expert at walking (falls constantly). He always looks like he's just gotten in a really bad fight because of this, we also found out he's anemic which is making him easier to bruise.

I wasn't really concerned until she said something and just assumed he was a clumsy kid... I trip over my own self.

Re: Still a really clumsy walker?

  • Colby is still pretty unsteady on his feet. He didn't walk until late October though

  • DS1 didn't walk at all until 15 months. He was slow to do everything. EI certainly won't hurt, but my pedi said it wasn't an issue until 18month.

I think the referral has a lot to do with the fact she knew how late he was to sit and the other general clumsy-ness. We also have an appt with an eye dr in Jan, DH has had 6 surgeries on both eyes, his original issues were double vision and she thinks its a possibility Simon might as well.

  • My LO is 16.5 months old and just recently began taking 3-5 steps. Still primarily a crawler.

  • Mason still hasn't started walking yet, so if he did it would also be super clumsy!! Good luck though at EI, it definitely couldn't hurt.

  • I would think eyes or ears might be the culprit in clumsiness. Does he have any inner ear issues/chronic ear infections?
He's never had a single ear infection, ever. But like I said we have considered eye issues because of DH's sight problems.

  • There is always a red spot on DD2's head somewhere from where she ran into or tripped into something. I think it's pretty normal and I'm not concerned. But, like PPs said, it can't hurt.

And FWIW, DD1 wasn't sitting on her own until 7-8 months, but was crawling long before.

  • Mine still isn't walking at all! She was pretty on target for sitting and crawling, but she's very hesitant to walk. She has started standing up without support, but mostly just to show off. She's 18 months actual now, and I'm hoping that she starts taking off by 18 months adjusted (so sometime within the next 2.5 months). Until then, I'm not going to stress about it too much.

Like PP mentioned, I don't think your DS's situation is super worrisome at this point but EI definitely couldn't hurt.
