Herbal Birth Prep

Anyone else taken herbal birth prep in a prior pregnancy or taking it now? Just hit my 34 weeks so I started mine today. Wondering if any moms could tell a difference when taking it.

Re: Herbal Birth Prep

  • Are talking about Red raspberry leaf tea, evening primrose oil and the like?  I've started drinking rrl tea just as I've come into third tri.  Nothing else yet.  My midwife wants me to start eating 6 dates a day starting at either 30 or 34 weeks, I can't recall.

  • I am a TTM. I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea and taking EPO at around 35 weeks (I think). I didn't do this with first 2 pregnancies. I had my LO at 40+4 weeks. My labor this time was quicker and I only had to push once. I had minimal tearing requiring a couple stitches.

I had to push about an hour with my first 2.
  • Hey gals,

I've been drinking an organic pregnancy tea for weeks, just because I am addicted to iced tea. What I was referring to was a supplement my MW had me start taking this week (at 34 weeks)...

@PrincessPeach13 Why eat the dates? I'm 33 weeks Saturday so this interests me!

@SStinson1 What is in those pills? I foudn them online but there's not an "ingredient" list. I'm curious about what they contain as I'm seriously considering purchasing some!

I drank rrl tea throughout pregnancy, used gentle birth formula from 34 wks on and ate dates, but they were not helpful for me. That said, if there is a next time, irf probably use these all again.

  • @potbellypig - Here's the info from Dr. Christopher's website:

Directions: This product is only to be used under a professional health care provider during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy.

Sorry for the late reply.  Basically what lbs said above.  Here is one study I found on it.:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21280989

Bascially the women who consumed the dates were more likely to spontaneously go into labor and have a shorter first stage of labor and were more dilated upon admittance to the hospital than the women who did not consume them.

  • Also, I think that the fresher the better.  So try to avoid dates that have been soaked in honey or have added sweeteners, etc.

  • I just starting taking some herbs that look really similar to your Dr. Christopher's birth prep. My midwife had me order from a local company, but the ingredients are almost the same.

I'm a FTM so I won't have anything to compare it to, but I'm willing to give this a try based on her recommendation. I'll also start evening primrose oil at 37 weeks.
