TTM about teething

So we've done STTN, Christmas, solids...have I missed teething?

M has his 2 bottom teeth just breaking the gum line.

We have baby orajel, teethers, Tylenol---anything else? I also have a mesh pacifier shaped thing. My friend swears by putting in frozen fruit for LO to suck on to help.

I know a low grade fever, diarrhea, and general fussiness are common. Anything else?

BTDT moms--advice?!

  • Just bought a Sophie today for him! Husband thought I was nuts insisting on it.

What's with the amber necklaces? Is it just supposed to calm them? How?
  • Ok.. So.. I need to know.. What's so special about Sophie !?

And,, I have those mesh things.. But.. The age recommendation is like 6 or 9 months.. Anyone know why?

  • I bought a Sophie for my first, but he preferred a cold washcloth to chew on.

I'm trying to offer Sophie to DS2 but he doesn't seem to care for it either.

    Oh well. She is cute.

  • My LO loves Sophie. I think it's the malleability of the plastic and the fact that they can chew/ suck on the legs, nose, ears, etc.

I bought him a Sophie lovie for Christmas he loves it so much.

  • I debated b/t the tabs and orajel. I chose the orajel b/c I'm familiar w/ benzocaine. It's quite harmless. Works topically with minimal absorption into the body.

How do the teething tabs work?
  • We do cold wash clothes, Sophie, parent hands and amber teething necklace. I don't care if it is the placebo effect or not, but my DD1 had no teething trouble and wore her necklace everyday, so I plan to do the same again.

  • When they get a little older cold celery and whole pickles were a hit at our house for gnawing. Also yonanas, frozen bananas with the consistency of frozen yoghurt, is something to try after solids have been introduced. Pic if DS1 with a pickle.

Sophie was just OK in our house but I wouldn't say she was a waste.

I was going to ask BTDT moms about the Amber teething necklace. So it's something you would suggest? OP I've heard great things about these!
  • This was under FAQs for a amber teething necklace site. It made sense to me. I bought one and love it. Also I've seen it mentioned to be sure its certified baltic amber

"The secret behind the soothing powers of amber is in the Succinic Acid. Amber contains some of the highest concentrations of it found in nature. It is a natural component of plant and animal tissues and it’s been known to have numerous beneficial effects when present in the human body, including pain relief. For centuries families in Europe and abroad have relied on amber teething necklaces to soothe their children’s teething discomfort.

When your child wears their amber teething necklace, their skin’s warmth will allow the amber to release trace amounts of natural oils containing Succinic Acid. Once absorbed into the skin, your child will begin reaping the healing benefits.

The lighter the color of amber the more succinic acid it contains.  The lightest colors contain up to three times more than the darkest color. That being said, any amount of succinic acid is going to provide some level of pain relief so determine what color you opt for based on how much discomfort you find your child to be under."
