A friend of mine is due Jan. 17. Her midwife said that since she's 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced she'll strip her membranes at this week's apt if she's another 1/2 cm dilated. I told her I think it's a bad idea since baby will barely be full term and dilation really means nothing (she's convinced it's a sign she is ready to go into labor). I'm not a professional, but I know that sometimes the waters get accidentally broken when membranes are swept and I think 37 weeks is far too early for this. She has no health conditions or risks, is just "done being pregnant." She has also already started things like nipple stimulation. I feel bad, but I told her I feel bad for her little guy and think she should wait so that he isn't born with breathing issues and freaked her out. Will any of your providers strip this early? I'm wondering if I'm wrong and the stripping really isn't that big of a deal.

Re: How soon will your provider strip membranes?
It may depend on the provider.
My midwife suggested nipple stimulation starting at 37 weeks is appropriate for me to help with my supply (this is my third child and I have previously struggled with breast feeding).
My blood pressure is high so she has suggested that a stretch and sweep will be performed (with my consent of course) at my next dr appointment as I will be 39 weeks. My understanding is that a s&s is performed to loosen the membranes which can trigger your body into releasing hormones to trigger labor.
I had a s&s with my second child, but I'm not entirely sure it moved anything along as I had the baby 4 days after the procedure. I don't think it works unless your body is ready to go into labor.

Don't feel badly for bringing up FACTS when she is only thinking with her sore uterus.
