If you are new, feel free to jump in and join us! We check in on Mondays and follow up with an accountability on Fridays (our favorite post of the week, because we love encouraging each other and celebrating all our successes!).

Re: ~**~ Healthy Living Check In ~**~

  • THE GOOD: I am going to the gym tonight!
THE BAD: I literally just ate two cookies #-o
THE PROUD: That I have a plan for the week?
THE PLAN: So this time of year is CRAZY busy right?  Between visiting families and navigating through chaotic malls and to do's left and right.  Ugh.  I have got to stick to my plan otherwise I will stress-eat myself and see y'all in another 20 pounds from now.  So, this is when the plan becomes the most important part of my week:
Mon - 1 hour long class of Body Pump and CX works at the gym
Tue - Insanity workout at home (the gym is closed)
Wed - Christmas morning hike with the hubby and pups
Thurs - Insanity workout at home
Fri - 5:45 AM Body Pump workout (yes, I said 5:45 AM).  Plan is to do this class then scoot off to work for the day.

Okay ladies, I hope I can stick to this.  I'll tell you on Friday how I did ;).

QOTW:  Are there any healthy sides you love to fix for your holiday meals?  Bonus points for recipes and/or PIPs!
Honestly, no.  But I'm hoping you all have some so that I may steal your tasty recipes ;)

  • Hi love. Thank you for the check in!

THE GOOD: We stuck to the meal plan last week.
THE BAD: Enjoyed a few too many beers over the weekend.
THE PROUD: Made healthier choices the couple days we dined out. Went to my first ever yoga class last week and itching for it to start back up after the holidays!
THE PLAN: We have so many parties this week... Try to make smart choices when snacking, eat a healthy meal before going so my stomach has less of a say in what looks good. Try to drop in on a yoga class at the end of the week-time permitting.

QOTW: Are there any healthy sides you love to fix for your holiday meals? Bonus points for recipes and/or PIPs!
I love asparagus or green beans with almonds mmmm

  • The Good: It's Christmastime!  (Sorry, it's all I've got this week! lol)

The Bad: I've had to put Couch to 5K on a short hold due to my knee.  I'm so upset.  It's extremely sore and I know if I continue it's going to get worse. :(  Hoping next week I'll be back on it!

The Proud:  Although I've been sneaking cookies, I've been keeping my meal portions in check!

The Plan: To get my knee back on track and get back on the treadmill next week.

QOTW: Are there any healthy sides you love to fix for your holiday meals?  I hate to admit it, but not really.  It's my time to eat whatever I want! (Insert my "evil" laugh)  :)

So excited that you enjoyed your first yoga class and are itching to get back to it ;).  Also - asparagus or green beans with almonds?  That sounds delish!!

ETA: And heck yes I'll post a picture of our hike tomorrow.  It's been foggy here in the mornings which always makes for some fun photo ops :).

@rubysi - a) love the new avatar :) b) how exciting that you're considering starting to run in January.  I think we have a few ladies here who are runners! c) your side dishes sound absolutely fantastic!  I love beets and never would've thought to combine feta and walnuts with them but I can see that being a great combo!

THE GOOD: I replaced my normal afternoon PB sandwich snack with carrots and hummus as part of my effort to decrease carbs.

THE BAD: I was eating hashbrowns when I wrote that last sentence, so maybe I'm not doing so great at decreasing carbs. At least they are homemade? Also, my thyroid is still wacky, so my weight hasn't budged.

THE PROUD: We only ate out once last week, and I've doubled my water intake. Hopefully when my thyroid balances out, I'll be able to quickly drop the extra weight I've gained.

THE PLAN: Keep making lower carb substitutes and increase workouts as my energy level allows.

QOTW: We make a lot of roasted vegetables. I chop everything up in 1-inch cubes, spray it with olive oil, and add salt, pepper, and paprika. I roast them until they're soft inside and then broil it quickly to make the outsides crispy. I like to do this with root vegetables, potatoes, squash, broccoli, brusselsprouts, or just about any other vegetable.
Sounds like you've been doing really well on your plans to lower the carbs and increase your workouts as you find you have the energy to do so!  The roasted veggie dish sounds so good and like something you could have all year long!

  • Hi ladies! Merry Christmas Eve! I'm on mobile so this will be a P&R but wanted you to know I was around... The good was my anniversary dinner... It was also the bad but oh was it so good :) the proud- I finished the 12 days of fitness at my gym. The plan---do as little damage as possible while traveling and then get back on plan with full workouts as soon as I return!!!!

As for recipes and or sides... Most of my veggie sides for holidays are slathered in cheese but I do love balsamic roasted Brussels sprouts and also basil balsamic roasted veggies with couscous and goat cheese. I'd be happy to get y'all the recipe if you like.

Hope everyone has a wonderfully blessed day and holiday.
