Flying with Baby - Fussy Afterwards?

My husband and I flew to his parents' house yesterday.  We landed at 3:00, and around 9:00, Jack, who is almost three months, started getting really fussy.  He's been pretty inconsolable for the last fifteen hours.  He will stop crying for a little while, but then starts back up again.  He did okay on the airplane ride itself

He has no fever, his diapers are fine, and he's eating.  He's flown once before, and he did just fine.  This didn't happen.  He did get his DPT immunization on Friday morning, but I don't think that would be bothering him still.  He is rarely fussy, and nursing always helps calm him down, except for this time.  I put a call into the pediatrician this morning, but have not heard back yet.

Ideas?

  • Maybe something with his ears from the altitude change?   Hope he's feeling more like himself soon!

  • Was he sucking on something--food or paci--on the way down? DS was fussier than usual the other day; we thought perhaps maybe his ears didn't pop on the descent of our recent flight and they were aching later. I've heard of adults with this problem. We gave him Tylenol just in case he was in pain.

  • Good idea.  He had his paci, but he was sleeping, so he really wasn't sucking much on the descent.  I gave him some Tylenol last night and that calmed him for a while.  Maybe his ears are still bugging him.
