What is lo's sleeping situation during holiday dinners/parties

I'm feeling like a Scrooge because I want to leave the dinner tomorrow night and come home for bedtime. My husband thinks I'm being inflexible (I'm cool with him staying at the party - he wants me to stay). They have a crib there, but it has bumpers and there's a 1% chance he will actually go down in it. I just don't want a cranky baby on my hands. What are you doing?

  • I'm an SS. We don't have a normal sleep schedule and LO is usually up late anyways.

  • We left DHs company Xmas party early to put her to sleep. I said it was the only way.

  • I chose stretching bedtime...but we aren't on a strict schedule. So maybe I should've chosen SS.
  • We visit friends on saturday nights on a regular basis...So far we bring the rnp along and she crashes in there.  When she gets too big it will be the pack n play.  She does well so far.
  • mmm donuts....but if i were you i would just leave. My lo only sleeps for me and it takes hours to get to the point where i can put her in a crib
  • SS here as well but I also really want Christmas donuts.  I am planning on bringing my wrap with me and wearing her once she starts getting sleepy.  She sleeps really well when she's on me and that way Momma can keep celebrating while she snoozes!

  • Donuts. It's the holidays, I'd roll with it. But that's just me.
  • We do Christmas at my mom;s and lo is ready for bed at 7ish. I have put off transitioning her from rnp to crib until after Christmas so that I could take the rnp with me. I'm setting it up in my parents room which is on another floor. She's slept at their house before so I'm hoping it won't be an issue. I'm not sure if we'll wake her and take her home or I'll go get her in the morning. TBD I think. They're only 15 minutes from us.
  • 99% of the time I make sure we are home by 830 so I can get LO down by 9 at the latest. But she normally goes down between 7-730. So if I can't stick to that I stretch her bedtime a bit. But I'm not comfortable with putting her down for the night elsewhere unless we are all staying over.
  • We started having Christmas Eve at my house when DS was a baby so he could go to bed and we would not have to leave early. I will just put dd to bed when she gets tired.

  • We've stretched bedtime in the past, but I would also consider putting him down where we are if there would be a place for him. I'm sure he'd wake up for the transition to car seat and then home, but I think I could get him down again fairly quickly...

  • I'd leave early to go about our regular bed time routine.

  • At the earliest he goes to bed at 9, so bedime won't interfere with our plans too much. We will eat dinner earlier and be home in time (we live close by).

  • I guess I'm a weirdo. Oliver stays up late anyways so we'll be home by bedtime. *shrug*
  • We are driving 3.5 hours in the morning to DH's families Christmas. Oliver usually goes to sleep at 8. We are going to leave between 8 and 9 and hope that he sleeps the whole way back. If we leave too late he'll be over tired and scream so I'm hoping to avoid that.

  • We don't bring the pack n play because its set up at my in laws and we just leave it there. When its his bedtime we will just out him in his car seat and he will pass out. He loves sleeping in his car seat so we just do that if at a friends house late.

  • It depends. Mostly I try and get home by bedtime, but actually more for my toddlers sake than the baby. On thanksgiving we set up a pnp at our friends house and that worked out.

That said, this baby is pretty flexible. My older kid I would not have even considered a late night out of the house after he was about 6 weeks old. He would not sleep other places and a bad nights sleep affected us for a day or two usually (I mean, worse than normal since his normal night was a bad night anyway). Daytime I could usually get him to nap on me in the ergo. But we needed to be home for night sleep, and on time too.

  • It depends. We will be leaving early tomorrow night to be home in time for bed. But we were at a party on sat night and just put LO down in their crib upstairs. She actually slept through all the noise (I was shocked) and we slid her into her car seat asleep when it was time to leave. It actually worked out much easier than I thought it would.

  • We will be leaving my aunt's on Christmas Eve at like 6pm 'to get DS to bed by his bedtime of 7'...

Except DS has no set bedtime and sure as heck won't go to sleep until 8 at the earliest on a good night, but we don't like my dad's side of the family much soo we are totally using LO as an excuse this year(:

  • If we are out I will try and get him to sleep in his car seat or I wear him. Otherwise I stretch bed time and assume it will be a long night.
Tonight he fell asleep earlier than normal....but had been awake 13 hrs straight. So I put him to bed. ILs were over and I caught crap for it but told MIL tough luck. And no she couldn't gowatch him sleep and kiss him goid bye.
Can I have my donut now?
  • We stay out past DS's usual bedtime only for special occasions but will follow his cues. If he is a fussy mess, we leave. If he is fine and will sleep, we stay out. I understand the anxiety though, particularly when it is so hard to get the baby on a sleep routine to begin with!
  • We stretch bedtime or she will fall asleep on one of us or in her car seat.

We are going to my moms for a get together and she has the works at her house (crib pnp etc) so hoping to just put her down in there.

  • Our Christmas plans won't go late enough to affect his bedtime of 8.
  • Her bedtime is usually around 9 so we will do church at 7 and go from there. We are hosting my ILs and their extended family on Christmas night so we will play it by ear.

  • I'm tired thinking of this. We will probably try to stretch it thought tonight is our 4th Xmas party doing it and sleep has been a nightmare. So I'm a gluten for punishment. If he's melting I will leave early though. But it's only 10 mins from my house so it's not really like we have to have a strict plan. Tomorrow we host thank god.

I say leave when you want to. F-ing up the sleep schedule sometimes is just not worth it.

Either way have a great time :)

  • Ugh, I'm not looking forward to doing this tomorrow for the same reason. Trying to put DD down in a strange environment doesn't sound like fun. We've agreed to leave by 9 at the latest, but DD goes down usually around 7.

This exactly. Good luck (I know we will need it)
