MOTN feeding

Our LO seems to have started a habit of not eating much breast milk during the day but then wanting to eat every 2 to 3 hours at night. We used to get 5 to 7 hour stretches. She gets solids for a lunchtime meal and at dinner too. She goes about 4 to 5 hours during the day. Would love that to be at night instead. Any thoughts on how to switch it around so she eats more during the day to help get more sleep?

Re: MOTN feeding

  • She may be reverse cycling. Kellymom says to just go with it. Sometimes it happens because your little one is too distracted durin the day or she may be eating too many solids. I would try feeding her in a dark quiet room during the day and/or backing off on solids. Can you send your husband in at night to soothe her back to sleep instead of you nursing her?

No advice but when J started doing this a couple weeks ago, two teeth popped up the following week.

Edit to add that he went back to "normal" right after they popped through.
  • 4-5 hours between BF feedings during the day seems really long to me. My LO eats 6am, 8:30am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm. It's a mix of bottles of BM and nursing since I'm working, and she gets solids on top of this. But, then she STTN. Maybe you can nurse more often during the day? They need to take in at least 25 oz BM per day so if she isn't taking it in during the day, she'll need to do it at night. GL!
