Scratching

Do any other LOs look like they've been hanging out with angry tigers? Or does my baby have supah speshul scratching powers? Those little mitten things are bullshit. I'm thinking the only option is to keep socks on his hands all day long, but surely that has consequences of a Freudian nature I'm failing to consider...

Re: Scratching

  • Yea, those mittens were a waste of money. No matter how often I cut his nails he manages to scratch his face so much. He has a few full on scars from the deep scratches.

  • Sometimes I look like I've been mauled by a tiger. He scratches my chest and neck a lot. Little stinker.
  • My LO doesn't scratch but my best friends LO scratches terribly. When he was younger he would scratch his head till it was a bloody scabbed up mess. She put mittens on him and socks and nothing worked. It looked terrible. But he is now 13 months and he doesn't scratch himself anymore except when he is frustrated I guess is what she said. I say just keep with the socks and hopefully your LO outgrows it soon! Sorry I don't have better advice!
  • We had no luck with trimming the nails, but my H started using an emery board on them every other day or so, and that has helped a TON.

  • We call JT wolverine hahah he scratches everything. His arms legs tummy. Head. Me. His face. I have trimmed his nails a zillion times. I actually failed today and cut one too short. It killed me a little. My friend has some special scissors she claims can't cut the baby. I will be investing in those ASAP.
  • We have to use the little scissors to cut her nails. I do them every other day because she is vicious. The emery board also helps keep the edges smooth too! Those mittens can kiss my ass.

  • Filing them down definitely helps. I'm convinced that trimming them just gives them little spikes.

  • We've been filing LO's nails from day one, but if we're not vigilant he'll scratch himself. Of course, he woke up looking like Scarface yesterday - just in time for all the holiday photos. We've been telling people who ask that he got in a bar fight!
