November 2013 Moms

I'm getting a little anxiety, would you go?

DD doesn't have her shots for another 2 weeks.

She has been to the grocery store, a clothing store, the doctors and one birthday party. My sons friend, his mom (my friend) wants to gtg with the kids at a burger king about 30min away, this afternoon so DS could play with his BFF.

All students are out on vacay now, so its going to be crowded with kids. I'm anxious to expose DD...

Re: I'm getting a little anxiety, would you go?

  • Id go. The only way children can build immunities is to be exposed to things.

This doesn't mean go toss your kid in a trash can and let them roll around with homeless people; but it doesn't mean stay at home and never interact either.

Plus, if baby stays home, but sibling goes out, then baby is still gonna get those germs.

  • Ya I would go too..I wouldn't even hesitate. I can't even count the number of places DS has been and the number of family and friends who have held him and his shots aren't until late January. Babies aren't as fragile as you may think, even if he does get a cold or sick, he will fight it off and be stronger for it.
  • I agree with PPs, and I'm a super paranoid mama. Finally I talked to LO's pedi about going out before the two-month immunizations and he basically said go wherever, just be smart about hand washing, who holds him, etc. I'd wear LO or keep the car seat mostly covered. It's hard not to be overly cautious, especially in cold/flu season, but your DS will love the outing and playing with his BFF.

  • I would go.  We took DS to a 3 year old bday party when he was 6 days old.  I wore him and he was fine.  As long as you wash your hands and don't pass LO around too much, it should be fine.
  • My sleep derived response is, heck no. I do not have the presence of mind right now to handle that level of stimulation and avoid germs and wash my hands and big sibling's. If I were more rested, maybe. In the meantime I would send big sibling over with DH or a good friend or else arrange a private play date with BFF another time.

  • The two month shots aren't magical perfect immunity, either. Keep LO in a carrier and wash your hands and it'll be fine (unless you've got an outbreak of something scary in your area).

  • Just like everyone else said, keep her close. Id say wearing her is best so she can be as close to you as possible and ppl are less likely to try and touch her if shes attached to you (or at least I hope thats the case).
