NBR: cookies and brownies

I suck at all things culinary. Anyone have SIMPLE recipes for holiday treats? My mother is hosting Christmas and doing all the work but I would like to bring something to share with with my family and to show appreciation. I want them to actually enjoy them instead of smiling them turning around and spitting into a napkin lol.

Re: NBR: cookies and brownies

  • Disclaimer: I am a terrible cook, but I can do these!

It doesn't get much easier than magic cookie bars! https://allrecipes.com/recipe/magic-cookie-bars-from-eagle-brand/

And brownie mix from a box is pretty full-proof too. My DH taught me to put a pot of boiling water (make sure your pot is all metal!) on the bottom tray of the oven while you're cooking your brownies and they come out moist every time :)

  • I mean, if you'd rather not risk trying something new you can't go wrong with a boxed mix. I like to go the recipe route normally, but in a bind there's no shame using a box! Whole foods has some "nicer" ones if you feel guilty serving Betty Crocker :)

  • I use box mixes all of the time due to lack of time. I learned from weight watchers you can create some fun flavors by using one box of cake mix and one can of diet soda. Mix and bake as directed. That easy and cuts calories. Butter Pecan mix with diet cream soda baked as cupcakes have always been a hit. Top with cream cheese frosting.

  • My family loves the magic cookie bars, we don't like nuts so I sometimes replace those with craisins or mini marshmallows, so easy! (Just remember to spray the bottom of the Pan and run a knife around the edge of your Pan when you take it out of the oven, all to avoid sticking. Learned the hard way)
  • My go-to dessert is what we call chocolate mess.  I suck at baking, but even I can't screw this up!

In a large bowl or trifle bowl, layer:

    Chocolate cake (crumbled up)
    Chocolate pudding
    Crushed Heath bars
    Cool Whip

I do 3 layers.  I've also been wanting to try this for the holidays with Andes Candies instead of Heath bars.  It's always a hit and it's so easy... the most difficult part is baking the chocolate cake (from a boxed mix, obviously).

Cookies ‘N Cream Oreo Fudge Brownies

    1 box Brownie Mix
eggs & oil (as called for by the brownie mix)
1 heaping half cup (6 oz) Cookies & Cream ice cream
1/4 Cup hot fudge topping (chilled or room temp)
1 pkg Oreos (regular, Double or Mega Stuffed! Your choice! :))

Preheat oven according to directions on the box and spray an 8×8 baking dish generously with cooking spray. Combine brownie mix, eggs, and oil as directed on the back of the box, but do not add the water. Add ice cream and hot fudge to the brownie batter and stir to combine. Pour half of the brownie batter into the baking dish, layer with Oreos, then top with remaining batter. Bake for 40-50 minutes or as directed on the back of the box.

  • I am an avid baker (as in, 4-5 dozen cookies a week for DH's co-workers.)

I have made my own recipes, tried recipes, doctored recipes, etc.

But never in my life have I gotten compliments the way I do when I use the recipe on the back of the Hershey's chocolate chip bag. People rave and rave and beg for the recipe. Today I omitted the Hershey's chips and added Christmas M&Ms and they are seriously so delicious. You can tailor the recipe for any mix-in. And ridiculously easy!

Yup great recipe. I just used this for when I made cookies for my 2 nd graders. Hershey chip recipe is on back. I have also used Nestlé and Giarendelle sp?

Chocolate chip cookies are always good or box brownie mix is always good.

I love baking but these are my go to when I don't have much time.

  • @mrs case

I use 2 cups choc chips 1 cup mini marshmallows 2 cups chinese noodles and 1/2 cup of peanuts. Mix all ingredients except the chips in a large bowl. Melt the choc and drizzle over other ingredients. I scoop out about a tablespoon or so to make each cookie obto wax paper and chill them in the fridge. The recipe is super versatile which i love lol
