I am super paranoid and didn't have any alcohol until ds1 was a year old. Is it ok to drink while nursing? I want to have some wine tomorrow but I'm paranoid. Please reassure me.
I was told if it's safe to drive it's safe to nurse?
Eta: I've only had one or two drinks since E was born since I'm always the DD but I did have to pump and dump once because I was afraid it was a little too much. 2 drinks in 1.5 hrs and I felt very buzzed.

If I can drive I can nurse. Plus there was also a recent study that shows the liquor barely even makes it through after being metabolized. I honestly don't know what I would do without my wine!
Thanks! My best friend has always freaked me out and told me it's awful to drink then nurse so I think that's why I'm so paranoid. I'll enjoy a glass (or a bottle- just kidding) of wine tomorrow.
I go by the "it's okay to drive" rule. I have also read that it's best to drink right after nursing so that by the time you nurse again it will be out of your system.
A friend gave me some extra test strips that she had so I plan to use them this week when I will be drinking more than just a glass.
I have small amounts rarely- no more than half of a glass of wine really. The only time I was really concerned I p&d, but I had pre-pumped some bottles (we were attending a wedding and I had 3-4 beers. By morning (when she woke up) I felt totally normal and she was safe to nurse. Like others have said, safe to drive, and also drink right after they eat, so the least amount is in your system by the time they are hungry again.

like others said, if you can drive you can nurse. I will have a glass of wine as I am nursing (it doesn't go straight to your boobs as you drink) at our last session of the night sometimes (or every other night).
As the other ladies said, if ok to drive, ok to nurse. Ill have a glass of wine or a beer and pump a few hours later and its been fine. I have the test strips I used before when I was first paranoid about this. I actually find that if I have a beer and pump hours later, i pump more!
I wouldn't even get within smelling distance of alcohol when I was pregnant. At first I was really paranoid about drinking and nursing. Now, it is nooo biggie whatsoever! I drink a couple of glasses, and spread it out so that I am not nursing and drinking too much at the same time. Like pp said, who knows how much really gets in the milk. I have yet to see any headlines saying that they have studied it and concluded it is bad and can cause _____. I feel like if they have not come out with any findings, it is probably because there have not been.
Still, just play it safe, relax, and have a good time. If you are really in doubt you could pump and dump, but I wouldn't bother.
I have test strips and have tested after one drink and after two drinks (anymore than that I figured wasn't worth wasting strips on - not safe!:). One drink didn't show up but two did. Since then I've gone by my rule of its ok drinking one drink during the day when she might be nursing, and I'll drink more at night after she goes to bed when I know she's going to be awhile before nursing again.
