NN Bri (Bree)

So I love the NN Bri, for a girl but my last name starts with "Br" and sounds like "Elle" at the end... Needless to say, that Brielle is out of the running! LOL

I don't like how any "Br" names sound with my last name, but want to go forward with NN "Bri..."

I came across the name Cambrie and I love it! My DH does NOT! What do you think? Also, I don't want to use Aubrey b/c its too common these days!

I've never heard Cambrie before but it's not bad. NMS but I think it's a good alternative if you really want that Bri NN.

I think Cambrie sounds a little bit like Camry (the car). Unless you would pronounce it differently- like how you say Cambridge. I could also see it being shortened to Cammie instead of Bri. I am not generally a fan of Bri, but I think Cambrie is a less common alternative to get you the nickname you want.

I have a friend whose full name is Brie. You could just cut out the NN part and make it her full name

I do not understand choosing a name only to assign a nickname later. Just name her "Bri" if that is what you love!

I am not a fan of Bree. I have a really bad association with that name. Plus I just don't like the way it sounds. Cambrie is all right. I also know a girl named Camrie.

Sisters name is Brieanna. Brie for short. Brianna is the more common name with Bri being the short version. I say go with that.

I have a coworker Breanne and she goes by Brea. A little different spelling than what you have. I've always liked her name.

As a couple PPs have said, I don't like when people pick a first name based on a NN. Just use the NN as the name.

As pp said,if you have"bri" anywhere in the name and your last name starts with "br" then you're going to have the "bri-br" alliteration no matter what. Even something where it's in the middle like "Gabriella Brelle" you still have both "br" sounds. To me it's not a big deal, but I would make the name at least two or three syllables to put some "distance" between the two "br"'s.

I should probably throw in here that my sister hated her name for a good long time. She's gotten used to the cheese comments now...but she had a mildly rough time with it growing up.

In my experience, nick names rarely get used with the full name or last name. For example, DD is Cassadi NN Cassi. So, when she's in trouble, we won't call "Cassi NN LN" but instead "Cassadi NN LN."

I guess my experience is the opposite. For example, my name is Victoria, but I've always gone by Vicki. Nobody calls me Victoria (even when I was in trouble, haha!) I introduce myself as Vicki Lastname, at work I'm Vicki Lastname. So if OP's child exclusively goes by Bri, the same alliteration problem would apply.

I thought of a name. A girl I went to high school with named her daughter Brylie. I could see Bri being a NN for Brylie. Brylie isn't exactly my style either, but it could work.

My daughter is Breanna (pronounce bree-onna) I named her that because I really liked "Brea"...which we do call her, but mostly we call her Bree, and some people call her bree-bree. Once in awhile I'll also hear breezy.
