Totally random: burning sage

Today my friend decided to smudge her house while I was over. For those who don't know what this means, she lit sage and "cleansed" her home. The smoke got strong and I excused myself outside. Then I made the mistake of googling the effects on pregnancy and now my paranoid self is nervous! Supposedly can cause problems :( has anyone burned sage while pregnant or am I crazy? At first, I equated it with burning incense, which we do on occasion, but now I'm not so sure.

Edit: added sage in title of post

  • I read somewhere red sage can cause contractions. But don't know if the smoke would have that effect or if you have to ingest it. Do you know if that was the type she used? Either way, I'd say if your not having cramps by now yours probably fine. Can't hurt to flush your system with a lot of fluids.

  • I have no experience with burning sage and pregnancy BUT I have a weird story about it. My grandma's brother and his wife are batshit crazy. One time my grandma was visiting them and they were acting a bit weird. She later found out that after she left they called in some kind of a spirit guide who said she left a bad spirit and they had their whole house cleansed with sage because of her visit. She has never been asked to return. Super weird!

I am really curious to know what the cleansing properties are sage are? Is it always "spirit" cleansing?
  • @aesimp my friend just moved into a new place and wanted to "get rid of any old energy". I'm not sure what else sage is used for. I read it can be a cleansing agent..not sure how much I buy into it but it smelled pretty strong.
