severe constipation relief??

Okay ladies. Sorry for the tmi but this is getting out of control. Its been a week since I've had any kind of bowel movement. I've tried Mira Lax, Metamucil, prune juice, BLACK coffee, stool softeners, dark green veggies, fruit juice (I love apple juice, I drink it daily), fruits (at least two oranges every day for breakfast)....

I am literally out of options. I'm trying to avoid prescriptions as I dont have insurance yet, but I dont know what else to do. I haven't been in a week, none of the things above have given me the slightest urge to go. And I'm beginning to feel nauseated from it all.

Anyone else had a similar issue with current pregnancy or previous pregnancy and found some relief???

HELPPPP!!!!!!!!

Glyceryn suppositories at night, Mira lax 2x a day, stool softners 2, 2times a day, lots of water and wait. I was backed up for almost 4 weeks. Super uncomfortable when you can't go! Now I do Mira lax every day, and a second time if I can't go by bedtime.

  • I was just woken up at 4 am because I was nauseated....turns out I just had to sit for a few minutes....my body had decided it was time to go. It's awful. I think we all feel for you. :(

  • I second the enema. Try a fleets enema. I took milk of magnesia last night and if I wind up with bupkiss today I'm asking DH to go to the store for me. They even have a generic of fleets!

  • I was just in the exact same situation as you. Felt like I had tried everything!! Not sure if MiraLax is the same thing but I took the max dose of Milk of Magnesia (4 tbsp) with 2 colace, at night, and then again the next morning, and by the afternoon that day there was definitely nothing left in me!!! (sorry, tmi ;)
  • Not having a big problem, but I had ibs when I was younger and if it got REALLY out of control, I bought a bottle of magnesium citrate, downed that sucker, and trust me, if it doesn't unclog your pipes, nothing on god's green earth will. I can't say for safety while pregnant with it though, so stick to these ladies if ya can.

  • I agree with the enema.  You can get glycerin suppositories OTC.  I had to use them on occasion with my last pregnancy.  My constipation was out of control.  I hope you get some relief!

------- And she said she tried everything, and didn't list an enema. After a week, I will do just about anything for relief.

    Stuck in quote hell

**heck yes** Also, as long as you only use them occasionally it shouldn't be a big deal, that's what my DR said. I call them all the time with weirdo questions and just had a conversation last week about this. They want you to use other things first but then if you it doesn't work you gotta get that crap out. Literally.

  • I was miserable with constipation and had to resort to a suppository one week, as recommended by my doctor. Eventually I had to switch from zofran to Diclegis. That sucked and I missed zofran but luckily as I'm nearing my second trimester things are getting better in both departments. The suppository worked and my doctor said it was safe but I would check with your doctor because I'm sure everyone is different. :) hang in there!
  • Thank you ladies for all the responses!!

I put in a call to my OB this morning. I can't use an enema..He told me to stay away from orc enemas and laxatives. He's calling in Rx laxatives and enemas and suppositories for me. Constipation is a common thing. And it has never been this bad. I called and begged for something.

They said if what they called in doesn't unclog the pipes in 24 hrs they'll have to put me in the hospital..yuck.

I suggested it since she didn't have it listed. I, myself, have never actually used one. I've been able to achieve relief by other methods.

Here's to hoping it works, and if it doesn't, the process isn't as bad as my previous experience with being in the hospital for not pooping! :)

  • I'm just teasing.  I was imagining you and your DHs getting down to business and saying "what should we do toni---ENEMA"  And it made me giggle.

Rock on with your butt flush!

  • I had the same problem. A pedestrian told my mom to tell me to drink a chocolate malt made with chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup. It works. I drink one once a week when it gets bad. Not very healthy but I was desperate.

A pedestrian?  Your mom talks to people on the street about her constipation?? :)

On another note, I was severely constipated in Las Vegas once and ordered a malt shake... and totally ran through the casino trying to find a potty.  It was fabulous.

I think this should go on an e-card somewhere.
