Parenting after a Loss

Double stroller recs (martinimomma)

Morning ladies. Appreciate your thoughts on this for those who have a double stroller and love (or hate) it.

Facts: G is 2 (but tiny) and A is 3 months (and growing fast). We need a double stroller that can maneuver in malls/stores and on the sidewalk (for walks and the zoo) with ease, isn't a total beyotch to fold, and that I (and our tiny child care provider) can hoist in and out of the back of the SUV without developing a hernia. G is not ready for a stroller where he'd have to stand all the time yet but that could work when he is a bit bigger. A is in a chicco keyfit car seat now but at 15 lb already won't be in one for long.

I love our single bob stroller but don't know that the side by side would work in stores (and the single is heavy so I can't imagine how heavy the double would be). And plus also those are spendy.

Ideas? Experiences? Positive or negative welcome. There is a graco that looked promising but it seems to only work with graco car seats.

I'm researching on amazon, etc and scouting Craigslist daily. but value input from my trusted PAL advisory team.

I adore our double BOB. I can take it to Target, Walmart, the grocery store, and malls without any issue. Doorways at office buildings are a tight fit but I haven't had problems anywhere else. It's a little heavy but I have heard its not much worse than a single. I can get it in and out of our cars by myself pretty easily (I'm 5'3" and relatively small). It is ridiculously easy to set up and fold down, too.

ETA: you should check out your local Mom's of Multiples group and see if they're having a sale anytime soon. I always see several BOBs at ours that are in great condition for about half price.

  • I have the Valco Snap Dual and love it! It was a splurge, but I will say it was worth every penny. It's the lightest double stroller out there (tied with the Kinderwagon Hop) at 22 lbs and it steers one handed over everything grass, gravel, mud, and just about everything else. It opens and closes in one step-without your foot (very easy compared to my G-Luxe), has a wonderful sunshade, is a side by side but is only 29 inches wide (City Select is 27 inches), and has an amazing  (huge) basket. It comes with the bumper bars and an organizer on the back. Mine came with a rain shield too.

I actually originally was looking at the Maclaren doubles and the City Mini when I found this stroller. I wasn't really sold on either because the Maclaren couldn't be used with smaller babies and still weighs in the mid 20s (the Valco is rated for newborns without the car seat-and again weighs 22 lbs) and the weight and the basket on the City Mini annoyed me. I'm probably OCD but I went out and looked at everything I could find both IRL and on the web. The Valco wheels are some type of rubber material (even though they are airless) that goes over everything too. I do believe you will be able to get the air tires for it next year.

You can get a car seat adaptor for it now, just go on the website. You can also see their demo, which is pretty close to real life.

I did forget to tell you it wipes clean super easy. If you want something that stays clean, you will LOVE this stroller.  I've been using it with the snuggler for my youngest since back in June and he rests comfy in it. The recline settings are wonderful.  Both of my boys have fallen asleep in it. It goes through standard doors no problem as well. Between it and my G-luxe they are probably my favorite baby items to date. If this had been out when I got my G-luxe, I may have gotten this one for the single though-it is amazing.

I have it in black, but it is on special at amazon right now in blue.

  • We have the BOB duallie, too. I personally don't think it that heavy.. It's no heavier than my Graco travel system which was a single. It pushes like a dream, and open/close is simple. I've taken it to the mall, aquarium, zoo, etc and never had an issue. It's a little tight getting it into my peds exam rooms, but we manage (or I wear one and let DS1 walk).. It is pricey especially considering you have to buy different pieces to make life easier (the snack tray is a must for us, and I also bought the infant seat adapter). All in all, we like it a lot,

  • Another City select vote. We love ours and I couldn't recommend it more. It's super easy to fold and I have no issues getting it in and out of my 4runner. The best part to me is each seat has the same weight limit which is hard to find in a tandem(45lbs), it's such a smooth ride and so far has handled ice/snow really well. The basket is amazing!! I looked at A LOT of strollers and this one fit our needs best!

    Stalking this thread.

Front runners for us are the Citi Select and BOB Duallie. Like you, @martinimomma, D isnt ready for the stand ups.

We have a Graco Snugride and need the stroller to work with that.

One tip you may want to take or leave from me when testing strollers out is to test the buckles with your toddler. My 2 year old can get out of our Uppababy G-Luxe straps in 2 seconds.

You may want to check specs but the City Select is 26 or 27 inches wide from what I recall and my Valco and the Bumbleride Indy Twin are only 29 inches wide. I really liked the Bumbleride but it was way out of my price range. :( I couldn't find a used one either. I think most of the other side by sides were 31 inches.

If you like a tandem some friends I know have the Contours (the lighter one) and they said it's basically the same as the City Select, just cheaper.

All of the ones I've mentioned (including the Valco) work with Chicco & Graco so you guys should have no problem finding something you like.

I spent way too much time this spring looking at strollers. I think the guy at BBB thought I was nuts.

I was looking at this since I like that it is a front/back instead of side by side and can be converted to a single stroller. My question is, does it maneuver around corners easily? I currently use the city mini single and LOVE it, but its a 3 wheeler which maneuvers great. Not sure if the 4 wheels of the select will do the same. Thoughts?
