Pampers or Huggies?

Hi ladies. I keep getting coupons in my email, so I'm trying to slowly stock up on things I will need when the baby gets here. Do you have a preference on brand of diapers, or is there a big difference between the brands? Does it depend on the baby, or can I stock up now? I'm new at this, so I'd love your input. Thanks!

Re: Pampers or Huggies?

  • I used cloth, so not much personal experience to share, but I do remember my friends complaining that some brands worked for their kids and others didn't.  I would definitely stock up on a variety if you want to do that.

  • We largely cloth but find pampers to be the best day time (especially the swaddlers for newborns) and huggies overnights for night time.

  • We used Pampers swaddlers when C was tiny because it has the line that changes colors when the baby pees, and DH needed help figuring that out.  Once he got the hang of it we switched to Target because holy cheaper.  We're still considering cloth for baby Charlie, because it's cheaper in the long run.

  • When DD was little we used pampers newborns because of the line like pp said. But now we use huggies and huggies overnights at bed time and Costco.
I think each brand fits a baby different so your baby might do well with Pampers where my girl shits out the sides of them.

  • We loooooved pampers. Used them until she was potty trained.
  • This content has been removed.
  • DS peed out of Huggins almost instantly. Loooovvveeee pampers swadlers! He's in size 4 diapers now and still wears them.
  • I'm a FTM but I worked in a infant room in a daycare. I LOVE Pampers! Worked best for a lot of the babies. They are especially good for boys. They leak less for some reason. I am not a Huggies fan. But you should probably get a variety of diapers so you can try them all out and see what works best for your baby.

  • Definitely Pampers over Huggies, though we recently changed to Costco and I think they have been equally as good! And a lot less expensive.

  • We LOVE pampers... we use the swaddlers.my son has really sensitive skin so after trying half a dozen of different kinds from Huggies and Lives and some other pampers like the cruisers and baby dry.. all of those irritated his little tushy except the swaddlers!
  • We mostly cloth but use disposables for the newborn stage and on vacation. I prefer pampers. I didn't like the way huggies fit or felt , but I know lots of people who prefer huggies. Also I have heard that costco diapers are the exact same as huggies if you do end up liking huggies
  • Parents Choice worked perfectly for my two kids, I will use them again this time.

We use Luvs at the preschool, they work well too.

  • Parents choice and target brand are great. I tried luvs but she always exploded through them. I nursed her so her poop was kinda runny. I would not recommend luvs. Huggies and pampers are great but walmart and target brand are just as good
  • Huggies have a pee line, too. We use Huggies because Pampers are Proctor and Gamble.

  • Both of my girls were long and lean. Pampers Swaddlers worked best for us.

  • Pampers swaddlers. Both DD and DS leaked with Huggies.

  • Had to use Huggies for step daughter. She was allergic to others.

  • Looks like I'm the black sheep of the group! I loved Luvs for both of my girls. I never had any problems with them.

I do have itty bitty babies though, and I used pampers swaddlers until they grew out of them.
  • I'm a Huggies fan.
  • Pampers swaddlers. We are still using them (he's 14 mos now). We tried Huggies but he blew out of them every time. For overnight we use the pampers overnight and have never had a problem.

  • Pampers were always good for us, Huggies always leaked. Switched through a couple of store brands before ending up on target. Cheap and great quality. But I would say wait and see what works for your baby before stocking up. When you find something good and get a great sale and coupons then stock up. I haven't bought diapers since July :)

  • Target diapers are better than any diaper. Never any leaks, never any rips. And can't beat the price!

Depends on the baby, but in my experience I have definite preferences. My kids' were completely different body types. He was super, super chubby and she was long and lean. I found the same things about the following brands for each of them, though.

Huggies - cardboard like feel, both of my kids leaked like crazy out of them - HATED these

Luvs - didn't like how they felt so bulky, they leaked a lot, too

Target brand - Good diaper, good price, I used these a lot with my son

Pampers - The best! I use the Swaddlers when they're tiny, but the Baby Dry mostly when they're older. The Cruisers are nicer, but more expensive. If I have a good coupon, I'll get them. With my daughter I've only used Pampers, but wouldn't hesitate to use Target brand if I had to.

  • I like pampers for my first. We used a few huggies and they leaked.  I heard they are better for boys though but I had a girl

  • Thanks everyone for your input! It sounds like pampers and the target or Costco brand work best for most people. Maybe I will buy a few different kinds but not go crazy stocking up until I figure out which works best for my baby. It's good to know that the store brands work great too. That will be a huge money saver. Thanks!
  • We used Pampers for over two years and LOVED them. Last month, one exploded after he was only wearing it for maybe an hour and he ended up getting a sever chemical burn on his genitals, quite like the meme going around Facebook. I am sure it was a fluke but to be safe we switched to Huggies. I don't like them because whenever he pees there is a chemical smell, likely the filler doing its job. Yuck! We have used the Walmart generic brand in a pinch and always had great results.

  • I used Pampers until about 3 months with DD (b/c of the line, as pp's said, SO needed help) then switched over to Luvs b/c they are so much cheaper. Had no problems with Luvs and will probably use them from day with this one.

Feb siggy challenge- SO is a twatwaffle, so here is me & DD instead

  • It depends on what works best for your baby. With my son we tried every diaper under the sun and wound up with the most expensive ones - Pampers. This LO I'm hoping will tolerate store brands and not pee through them.

DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.

  • Used pampers early on with the little girl we've took care of since birth, planning to do the same with this baby. They were good until she got about 3m and we switched to Luvs, they last all night. I'm not a fan of Huggies diapers buy love their wipes! Sam's club brand diapers are also wonderful as well as their wipes.

I totally agree! We swear by huggies overnights, but the regular huggies OMG they smell so bad (to me).

  • Pampers Swaddlers for NB, Size 1 and Size 1-2 for the indicator line!  Priceless!

I alo love how soft they are and how they smell.

After that, I use either Pampers Baby Dry (with coupon or promotion/deal) or Target brand up and up diapers.

    Target brand pull-ups, however, suck.

  • Pampers were always good and we had more issues with huggies
  • I used to think of myself as a diaper snob with DD, but I'd be willing to give costco and target a shot. I hated huggies last time because of the leakage issue.
