Bad Diaper Rash

DS has a pretty nasty diaper rash. Any product/home remedy work best for you LO's who have experienced this?

Re: Bad Diaper Rash

  • No lie, crisco shortening. That helped from one diaper change to the next. Overnight we used butt paste max strength with 40% zink oxide
    And then there were three...

  • When LO has bad diaper rash I stop using wipes and use wet paper towels and put butt paste on. It seems to clear it right up..

  • Ditto not using wipes. DS had a raw, bleeding diaper rash as a new born. I'd rinse his hiney in the sink and use Cerave to wash him. I'd pat dry and then put Boudreax's butt paste and baby powder on him. If it gets really bad your pedi can call in a prescription. DS had to use Nystatin and when that didn't work the pedi had the pharmacist mix a "butt balm" compound. Seriously the best thing ever! It clears up any diaper rash within 2-3 changes.

  • We make sure to dry our son as much as possible when changing his diaper and then put on a thick layer of Vaseline.  The diaper rash is usually cleared up pretty quickly.  We also make sure to change his diaper in the middle of the night before we go to bed to make sure he's not sitting in a wet diaper for too longer overnight.

  • We use a paste made by Pedi-derm. it is super thick and works every single time.

  • I put half a cup of baking soda in the bath and it helps a lot. If it's really bad, I'd let your LO run around with no diaper if you don't have carpets.

  • Coconut oil baths help. Make sure it isn't a yeast rash that needs to be treated with an anti fungal. It will be a bright red, spotted rash. Also, make sure you aren't getting too cheap on the diaper cream. Ice his butt up like a cake! We use Burt's Bees diaper cream and love it. Good luck!

  • LO went through 7-10 days of diarrhea a few months ago and had terrible diaper rash. After trial and error, I discovered a three step process worked the best for us - baby powder (I use the Johnson's one with cornstarch in it) to dry it out, a thin layer of Vaseline and then Boudreaux Butt Paste. The Vaseline and Butt Paste help protect his skin. I also changed his diaper pretty regularly (about once an hour and in the middle of the night). After 1-2 days, it cleared right up.

  • Another, no wipes person here. Put some paper towels (preferable strong, soft ones like Viva) in some kind of holder, tupperware will do, then use a squezze water bottle to wet them. Baking soda in the bath.

We cloth diaper so I use coconut oil. At night we use sposies and use A+D.
  • no wipes, baking soda, coconut oil, pants off!!
  • if LO is sore from it try some mylanta on a cotton ball and rub on the rash. it takes the burn out.

also apple cider vinegar helps either in the bath or use it on a paper towel to replace wipes
  • No wipes. Wet /warm paper towels. A&D.

     Hope LOs rash heals quickly!!
  • My man has a terrible one as well! We had to take him to the doctor and he recommended Triple Paste. It is super diaper cream and the package literally states "when nothing else works". DS's is caused by a bad bout with the stomach flu so the doctor recommended mixing it with Mylanta to help the acid not make the rash worse while the cream creates a barrier. I rinse out the wipes so the antibacterial and perfumes are rinsed out so that doesn't burn. Our pedi said if it isn't better in 3 days though to come back and get prescription strength stuff. I'm half tempted to just potty train him now to help him out. Good luck!
  • Thanks for all of the advice ladies! I found that the baking soda baths worked really well along with lots of "air time"! Also, since it was so bad there were blisters on his bottom I had him in overnight diapers during the daytime too for extra absorption. He is 100% back to that baby soft bottom once again!
