Early Risers? UPDATE

So LO doesn't STTN, but instead has the following sleep schedule: down at 7pm, up around 11pm,2am,430am.. And then he stays up... I can't get him back down in the morning.. I've tried rocking, nursing, minimal stimulation, baby got colic song, etc. I can handle the multiple wakings and feedings a night ... But getting up so early on barely any sleep is taking its toll.. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I know I should probably suck it up... But... Mama wants to get up with the sun :-(

UPDATE: So I kept LO up until about 9:30pm and he slept until 2:30am.. and then until 6:30am! I woke up once and popped his paci back in somewhere along the line... but... it was a Christmas miracle. Not sure if it was a fluke, but I'll be keeping him up again tonight to see how it goes!!!

UPDATE UPDATE: As stated below, complete and utter fluke....  womp womp

Re: Early Risers? UPDATE

  • Maybe put him down a little later? We are late to bed/late to rise people around here so I don't have much advice, sorry :(

I've thought about that.. I'm just afraid to mess with the 4 hour stretch we've finally established. :-/ .. But maybe it's time to give it a shot..

  • I am right there with you! During the night I don't change his diaper usually (it would wake him up completely ) anyways I just awoke to a poop explosion! Yup we are up for the day, dang it.
  • Yes!! I was going to post something similar! Lately DS wants to get up for the day around 5:30. I don't know if a later bedtime would help or not. Lo is usually in bed around 7:30 but didn't go to bed until 8 because he was fighting it. He woke up at 4:10, ate and then I put him back down and he wouldn't go to sleep! So, I let him just stay awake babbling in the pnp, he wasn't fussing at all. I think he finally fell asleep an hour later. He got up again for the day at 7:20. Every night is different. Most days he wakes for the day at 5:30.... such a long day when he decides to do that! Btw my lo is Mason Lewis  ;)

What would happen if you just put him back in the crib at 430? I was at my wits end one night and I finally just put him back in awake ( I never am able to put him down awake. He's usually asleep when I put him down but I didn't know what else to try). He cooed and talked to himself for about 15 minutes then fell back asleep. It was so cute. I think that he didn't cry because he was already well rested t that point. Worth a shot!

    Edit: I can't spell
  • No matter what time my LO goes to bed, she's up 5-6am. I have learned to just accept she is a morning baby.

This! We usually put LO down each night around 9-10:30. She wakes up anywhere from 3-5:30 to eat. Then she back down until about 8-9ish. Give it a late night shot...see what happens. GL!

  • Hmmm I guess it can't hurt trying once or twice. Tonight my parents are having us over.. Maybe I'll have him hang out with us instead of trying to not stimulate him so he falls asleep... Fingers crossed!

    Thanks, ladies :-)

  • My little guy is an early riser, too. He's recently decided he is ready to be up a little later and now goes down around 8. He still wakes up every couple hours to eat, and now gets up at 6am. That's when we start to get ready for DC, so I can't be mad that he wakes up at the same time on the weekends.

Maybe try pushing bedtime back a little bit? When he was previously going to bed at 6-6:30, he would be up at 4-5.

This unfortunately. LO went down an hour later because of all the activity where we are staying but she was still up at 5 am this morning. Coffee.... Lots of coffee.

I have the same problem. Dd is always up around 5 no matter what bed time, no matter how many night wakings.

It's tough, sorry I don't have any advice- just sympathy.

  • My LO is the same. I posted about it awhile ago and @mommyames2 shared that her LO is an early riser and she just accepts it and wakes up early with her kids. After I accepted my new wake time I felt better.

In my household, it is not morning until the clock says 6:30 am. If either girl gets up before that, their needs are addressed and then they are put back to bed whether or not they want to sleep. Like PPs said, maybe try for a bit later of bedtime like 7:30 or 8:00. Good luck and I hope you get to sleep in a bit soon!

This is the rule in our house, too. More enforceable w the big one, but if the littles get up before then, they either get a paci or the boob and then back in bed.

I feel like it would easier to accept if he wasn't up 3-4 times a night lol.. But.. You're right.. I should probably just accept my fate huh? :-)

I think I'm just gonna start going to sleep at 7pm... The sun's not up then anyhow :-)

This is pretty much our schedule to the T! I'd definitely try later nights. The first morning feeding is the one that varies the most (anywhere from 3-6am) but then almost always up for the day by 830am.

I would like to try this with my 19 month old but when I try she just stands in her crib and yells and sobs. For at least an hour. Any suggestions?

  • @NikkiD522 I think our LOs were in sync last night. He was up every few hours (if that long) and then decided at 4:30 to stay up. Stayed up with me till about 6:30 but now that it's DH time with him he's sleeping peacefully. I am really hoping to have the fluke of a few good hours again soon.

The entire night was a blur lol. I am just so glad I fell asleep early so I got a good hour in hehe. I will hope for another fluke for you as well! I woke up (if that's what you want to call it) this morning with my phone playing 'Baby Got Colic' at his crib, his Merlin sleepsuit thrown in there, and a baby attached to my boob in bed.....  oh and he was just giggling away...
