Trouble TTC

Drinks during 2ww?

I know this is really a personal decision and everyone will vary in their own beliefs, but just curious if you: a) treat the 2ww as if you are pg and abstain from things you 'shouldn't have in pg...specifically alcohol OR, b) continue to enjoy things in moderation OR, c) something other than the first two options Last month with iui#1 I pretty much acted as though I was pregnant and didn't drink at all, etc. This month with iui#2 I feel as though I should just relax and enjoy the holidays with family, including having an occasional glass of wine or two if I feel like it. I know part of this is because this cycle is such a fail in so many ways that it seems HIGHLY unlikely it will even work, so why deprive myself...? So how do you all treat the 2ww, when it comes to alcohol?

Re: Drinks during 2ww?

  • I don't act any different during the 2ww. If I want to enjoy a drink I do. But we don't go out often and we are not "party people". So it's not like I am going out and getting tanked all the time. I know everyone feels different but I don't want to miss out on the now :)

  • I'll have a drink or two, but that's all. I wouldn't allow myself to get drunk.

  • I agree, those are very personal decisions and vary depending on circumstances.

As for me, I already invested myself emotionally so much in this process, I don't want to second guess anything. DH supports me in this.
  • I may have 3 or 4 glasses of wine over the entire 2ww. But sometimes not at all. I'm not a huge drinker anyway, so it's a sort of self limit. That being said, we're still pretty much trying on our own and proceeding with testing. If we move on to drugs or IUI or IVF, I probably would not drink.

  • I don't think a drink every now and again is detrimental but my hubby is a paramedic so he is super invested in the health aspect of the whole process. That being said he feels more comfortable if I don't drink so I choose not too. I'm also with PP with not wanting to second guess anything if something goes wrong/ doesn't work. Definitely a personal choice though.

  • I'm so with you. Last cycle we did everything text book- low carb, no alcohol etc. etc. Big fat fail. This cycle, I have no expectation of it working. I've been eating decently but have had some carby treats here and there. I had a glass of champagne at my work Christmas party and a glass of Pinot noir last night just because. If we were doing another IVF, honestly, I'd be super strict. It's just so many thousands and thousands invested. But this is "just" an IUI and I don't have much faith in it working.

  • I used to be a "drink till it's pink" gal, but have stopped all alcohol and caffeine consumption for my IVF cycles. I plan to remain alcohol and caffeine free until we either a) finish having all our babies or b) move onto other options (like donor eggs or adoption). It's likely that I have egg quality issues, so I don't want to do anything that could harm the few good ones that I pray are in there.
