Waking up an hour after falling asleep

My 15 month old has been waking up an hour after falling asleep, almost to the second, for the last month or so. Is anyone else having this issue? What are you doing about this? She used to sleep through the night. She wakes up a couple times in the night and cries, but has been falling asleep on her own in those instances. Any thoughts? Thanks.

When she wakes up after an hour is she awake and ready to be picked up or does she go right back to sleep? My son wakes up randomly at night when he learns something new. He started to say Star cause he loves the Christmas tree. (I love how he says star before mom, but whatever) That night he woke up like 10x and I'd hear..Star, Star, Star from the monitor. He would eventually fall back asleep so I didn't bother him.

Our daughter does this 3-4 times a week. Either my husband or I just go in, pick her up and hold her for a few minutes (she always puts her head on our shoulder and enjoys snuggling for a minute). She sleeps with her favorite Mr. Grouper toy and as we are laying her back down, we tell her that he's still tired and its time to sleep. And then we tell her to lay her head down and we love her and we'll see her in the morning. Repeat the last sentence as we're leaving her room. She goes right back down and sleeps through the rest of the night. She will cry a couple times after I leave her room if I'm the one that goes in there but is fine when daddy goes in there (so he usually goes in).

My LO does this when he's teething or has an ear infection. It took me a little while, but I noticed a definite sleep pattern disruption during those time and it involved the waking an hour after going to bed and periodically through the night. I don't know if that could be the issue, that's just my experience with similar behavior.

It could be teething. No infections. She's fed, milked, cuddled, read to, changed, temp checked, all my bases covered. She is super clingy. I'm just confused as to why she is consistently waking an hour into sleep. Thank you for your encouraging words.

As others said, teething could be the culprit. You said your dd is super clingy, so another thought I have is a phase of separation anxiety.

DS sometimes wakes MOTN and starts screaming (he usually STTN, or if he wakes, he puts himself back to sleep). He had a really bad 2 wks doing this screaming, and it was due to separation anxiety. When I go in to soothe him, he stop crying the second I walk into his room. But even when he drifts back to sleep, he lifts his head up every few minutes to check if I'm still there. The second I'm gone, he starts screaming. I even tried re-Ferberizing but it didn't work. He cried louder and longer each time I left his room. In the end, I had to have DH go in, and that worked well. DS doesn't scream and cry when DH leaves the room.

So, perhaps when your dd wakes up after her first sleep cycle, she is awake enough to notice your absence... Separation anxiety kicks in and she screams for you.

As with everything in toddler-hood, this is just a phase and hope it passes soon.
