Possible Pre-term labor

I woke up at 3 this morning with a lot of cramping and nausea. By 8 I thought I'd had a few contractions (which I've had before and assumed were BHs) so I called the advice nurse - they told me to go to the ER - I'm 19 weeks 4 days and our hospital doesn't send people to L&D until 20 weeks. I was checked out by OB and turns out I'm having some contractions - she was able to feel a couple of them while I was there. I had a full exam and my cervix is long and closed, but has shortened 1 cm since my AS on 1/10. I was discharged home to rest for the weekend with Indocin to stop the contractions and follow up appointment with my MFM on Monday morning. Sounds like they'll do some more frequent cerivcal checks to see if the contractions are causing changes or just random contractions that may be a pain in my ass. Hoping the next check shows no shortening and that with just taking it easy and easing up at work I wont have to be on bed rest and out of work too early (or deliver too early).

Re: Possible Pre-term labor

  • Rest up. I was on indocin and then nephopine (sp?) during my pregnancy. I went seven weeks from when the contractions were first discovered. Sending T&Ps.

  • Thanks, ladies. DH and DD have been really great about getting lots of rest this weekend and I've definitely noticed fewer contractions (who knows if its the meds or the rest, or both, but I"ll take it).

MaiTaiBeth, no mention of a cerclage or pessary yet, but I assume I'll get more info at my appointment tomorrow morning and another check of my cervix. If it's shortened more then I'll ask about that for sure. Thanks.

In the meantime, all this couch time gave me the opportunity to actually figure out a signature.
