What age did you learn about Santa? How did you find out?

  • I was in 2nd grade. I remember some of the students claiming that Santa was not real, and my teacher confirmed it. I decided right then that when I grew up and became a teacher that I would never ruin Santa for my students :-(

    Awe that's sad!!!!

I don't remember how old I was but I found the presents from the Easter Bunny's presents on accident. After my mom let out a string of colorful words, she said "well you knew about Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy right?" I found out about all three at once!
  • I found out when I was about 9 or 10. I think I'd known for awhile, kids had been talking about it, but didn't want to believe it. I read about it in a chapter book I was reading, the characters were discussing it or something. I was reading it while my mom was driving us somewhere and so I asked her about it, she asked me what I thought and I told her I thought he wasn't really and that I didn't think the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy were real either. She confirmed. Then I asked her if Jesus was real :) She told me he is and then started talking to me about faith and everything.

  • I honestly cant remember when or how I found out. I'm the youngest in my family so I'm guessing my siblings told me. It's funny that you posted this because my family is in the middle of a Santa disagreement lol.

My older sister is very religious (I consider myself to be religious as well) and she isn't teaching her kids about Santa. Well, my mom and dad arranged for friends of theirs to come over as Santa and Elf and my sister is upset.

I see her side of it, she wants to make Jesus the center of Christmas but my parents (and DH) want to do this for the kids. I really don't want to get involved because I don't care one way or the other. My brother has two kids and I think they like Santa visiting us. Christmas will be interesting this year....
  • I was 9, my teacher told our class. I'm glad I believed so long, it makes me sad that kids today seem to all find out around 5/6.

  • I was about 7 or 8.  My cousin said Santa wasn't real, so I gave my mom a different wish list than I gave Santa. When the gifts told her came from Santa, it was confirmed.

  • I was 4. I actually found out about the easter bunny first. My older sister and I snuck down onto the stairs that face the living room and we found our parents putting the stuff in the baskets. The next day we asked them whether santa was fake as well. They confirmed it but asked us not to tell our younger sister(2) so that she could still believe for a while longer.
My 7yo has known for a couple years and so has his stepsister(10). However, we asked the same thing, that if they would please not tell the little ones so as not to ruin it for them.

  • Wait? Santa's not real?

Not sure when I stopped believing but I never told my parents so there are still a few gifts I get every year from "Santa". To me it wasn't a big deal as long as I still got the loot.
  • I didn't. My mom never bought into teaching us he was real. I'm following suit with my daughter. Stories are fine, but I will recognize them as stories with her. My husband supports me completely. He found out from his cousin when he was little and was traumatized. I'm getting a lot of flack for it from extended family and friends, but I don't care. I don't tell people how to raise their kids.

  • I have no memory of believing in Santa. I am not sure how young but it would have been around 4. My brother was 8 and told me.

My kids believed a long time. No one actually told them, it was a slow realization. Each year in school more kids would say he wasn't real and I would ask them what they thought. As long as they wanted to believe I would just say I agree with then and that not everyone believes in Santa but that's ok. One year they didn't really ask so much as tell me that he isn't real. I said the spirit of giving and being kind is real and that's kind of Santa. They were always taught not to tell other kids about Santa. They have many younger cousins and managed not to ruin it for any of them. As they get older they love keeping Santa fun for their cousins.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus so that tied in as well for us, God gave his Son and we celebrate his birth on that day.
  • I found the "santa" wrapping paper under my parents bed. I think I was 8.
