Overtired - Poor J :(

DH was trying to be nice and helpful by taking J to the mall for some last minute shopping. However, they were heading home in the tired zone. He cranked up Christmas tunes and she zonked out in the car. We got her in and tucked in, but she only slept 20min.

She was yawning and laying down about 2hr later, so I tried to put her down. She nursed and seemed like he was going to sleep. Nope! Wide awake and standing up, talking and playing.

Fast-forward another hour and she is crazy tired, bumping into stuff and screaming. DH is in with her now trying to get her to settle (we don't do CIO).

Sigh. Poor J. I asked DH why he didn't do the cracker trick (feeding a tired baby in the car can buy you a few minutes to get home), he said she wasn't tired. Double sigh.

No nap, no weekend nooner for DH.

Re: Overtired - Poor J :(

  • Car naps are the worst! I usually have a bag of toys with me and hand them to M one at a time. If I forget to bring toys along, I hand cd jewel cases to him. In any case, I try not to go anywhere far with M in the car if it is just the 2 of us. I also put my hand on his head every time I'm at a stop light and rub his head to make sure he isn't falling asleep.

  • Poor J and poor mom and dad! Sleepy cranky babies make for a rough day.
I was just laying E down for her nap this afternoon when mh had to come in and ask if I wanted some brisket. It takes literally 2 minutes to put E down, and I had been in there for 1. He couldn't wait 1 more minute?
Needless to say, it resulted in E crying for 15 minutes, then mh rocking her for 30 minutes, then he gave up and let he run around for 30 minutes, then we fed her a second lunch and tried again. She cried for 15 more minutes, and only slept for 1 hour instead of 2.
And mh is going out for poker night tonight so I'll be stuck at home with the whiny kid. Sigh.
I hope bedtime comes soon for us both!

  • That sounds like my Los day with DH yesterday. Big hugs. I hope things are back on track tonight.
  • So DH was able to get her down at 3:30. She slept until 5:30, violating the no nap after 5 rule. But we let her sleep because she has a cold and is so tired. Now it is 8;45, she still isn't totally down. Her usual bedtime is 7/7:30. Sigh.

@pb_bride, I have a bucket of toys in the car. DH just muffed it completely. Crackers will buy at leat 5min. He did neither.

  • Oh no! Go to sleep J! E is thankfully passed out hard. Why is it that littles have such a hard time sleeping when they are ovviously so tired? I hope you all get some rest soon.
