TTC after 35

What are you having for Christmas dinner?

We are hosting and our dinner sounds boring. Here it goes. Baked ziti with meatballs. SIL is bringing dessert and MIL is bringing garlic bread and some kind of Italian meat that I don't like. My mom is bringing a salad. ::yawn:: There are 10 of us and 2 kids.

I also wanted to make a beef tenderloin but I make it with the oven on 500 and it will get smoky!

So what are you having!!

That's too funny because I went to get my hair done today and I asked what was their dinner and she said just like Thanksgiving! Lol. But @HeathernSteven you didn't answer my question!! Should I make the filet too or just ditch it. Haha I'm a bit tipsy :)

  • My family always does lobster and a tenderloin roast. I'm a vegetarian so the dinner sucks for me but everyone else looks foreword to it. I get stuck taking the lobster meat out for my husband and kids because I don't eat any of it I have nothing else to do.
I would make the roast if I were you. Maybe just bump down your temp to 425. I do mine for an hour at that temp and it comes a perfect medium rare.
And I love your boot glass.
Makes me want to go get tipsy also.

  • Thanks Becky for the hug and I'm definitely going to make myself a drink. I'm wrapping presents and it's torture.

I usually only eat a twice baked potato and string beans almondine. It's too much of a pain to have to make something just for me. But I'm so used to eating like that when I go to people's houses. It's all good.

Now I'm going to make a nice big whiskey and ginger ale.

  • My SIL makes Christmas dinner every year. No clue what the main course is I've volunteered to make an appetizer. I'm thinking baked Brie or a braided Parmesan and artichoke bread thing. I'm vegetarian like Hooligan above so Thanksgiving and Christmas I usually eat the vegetables and rolls lol

  • We are hosting a small dinner for 4. The menu is not totally set.

My husband is in charge of the meat selection (I don't eat it) I think he is going for leg of lamb with the mint jelly we made from the mint out of our garden.
    Garlic Mashed potatoes
Roasted beets with feta and walnuts
    Roasted asparagus
Quinoa salad with sweet potato, kale, cranberries, pumpkin seeds
I will probably have a vegetarian chik'n quorn thing.
Homemade pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cinnamon cream
Probably a cheese, olive, hummus appetizer plate to start.
I know it is a lot of food but I like variety.

  • We start the day with my sister's AMAZING homemade cinnamon rolls and breakfast with my mom.

Christmas dinner,we're eating with my step-dad's gargantuan-sized family. It's usually ham, potatoes, a variety of cold salads, hot vegetable dishes, and probably enough dairy to make me sick if I eat too much of it, hahaha. We're having dessert with my dad and his family. And I am hopeful that next year, Nathan and I will own a home and be able to host the holidays.

If we're home on Christmas eve, I'll probably make a small ham, sweet potatoes, greens, and bread pudding for the two of us.

  • Well I'm vegan and I usually have the same as thanksgiving. I have a stuffed Tofurkey, homemade stuffing-from scratch, spinach, corn, multi-grain rolls, roasted red potatoes w/ garlic. Dessert, I usually make vegan pumpkin pie. This time I think I'm going to try to make vegan banana pudding. I don't know much about cooking meat any more. But lowering temp to 425 for an hour or two sounds right.

  • DH loves to cook, and it's the first time we're having the family over to our place, so he's making Beef Wellington, carrot soufflé, peas with pancetta, roasted squash with sage and pine nuts, and pumpkin pie.
  • Rib-eye roast, giant baked potatoes, brussel spouts with bacon and water rolls.  For dessert it's German chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.  We also do appetizers - tex mex eggrolls with avocado cream and fresh pico de gallo.  Red wine. Red wine. Red wine.
